Today, the class meets on the beach, to accomadate the student who has a bit of an aquatic problem at the moment. The Doctor set out beach blanket and towels, and has hauled the holoprojector out on a cart.

"Pass forward your requests I asked for, thank you. As I let you know, we're switching things around a bit. Vampires and werewolves will be at a later date. Today is simply 'Close Encounters of the Unattractive Kind'. Now, please remember, that it's not so much that I find these species particularly unpleasant, it's just we might as well show some of the more unsavory aliens out in the world. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'll be taking questions today, but no lecturing today. It's called close encounters for a reason. You'll be talking to the projections, trying to gather what you can from them. Ask them whatever. Remember they can't actually hurt you, but please only antagonize them if you're being terribly clever about it. There is no assignment for next week. Time for you all to put on your 'first contact' thinking caps. The projector will be sending out three different aliens. Talk to at least one, please."

The Doctor smiled, then turned on the projector. Three forms appeared...

"Your species is of no threat to Sontaran might," Styre said. He licked his lips again for no apparent reason.

"And why would you say such a thing?" Kaylee asked.

"As my species is better, stronger, and faster than yours. We have more advanced technology. It would be easy to conquer this planet in mere days."

"You're so sure of yourself," Kaylee said, rolling her eyes.

"Complete confidence is part of the military code," Styre said. "I do not expect your brain to be able to understand that."

Kaylee gave him a death glare and wondered if she could actually hit a projection.

Styre simply laughed.

And licked his lips with his ugly, slimy tongue again.

"Well, you can't really do much from there, can ya?" Kaylee said. Because he was still just projection.

The Doctor stepped in at this point. "Don't worry about old Styre, here," he said. "He's long since been defeated, actually. But he gives a sadly accurate impression of his race."

"Too bad they can't be nicer," Kaylee said with a frown.

"I agree," the Doctor said. "They're all like him, sadly. Literally, in the case of appearance, as they are a race of clones."

"Seems like they all got the same personality, too."

The Doctor nodded. "Harsh, proud, superiority complex, and a head shaped like a potato. Thankfully they stay away from earth for a good long time."

Kaylee couldn't help laughing at the potato shaped head comment because really, that was an accurate description.

"Hopefully, they don't go anywhere near where I'm from either," she added.

"I do hope that, yes," the Doctor said. "Thankfully, they're too busy with their silly war with the Rutans, most of the time."

Kaylee shook her head. "War never did make any sense to me."

"War never does," the Doctor said, grimly. "The cost always seems to outweigh whatever victory is to be had."
