Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

Molly wandered over to check out John's construction. "Nice fort," she said with a grin. "You came prepared."

"Thank you," John beams. "You can come inside. There's cereal to eat and...sit on. Sorry about that."

Molly giggled and went inside. "Do you have separate cereals for sitting and eating or is it just chance where they end up?"

"Cereal doesn't like to stay in boxes," John says, offering her a box of Golden Grahams. "When I use the boxes as foundations, I tend to scatter cereal. The stuff on the floor here is Fruit Loops."

Molly took the box and pulled out a handful as she sat down and looked around. "Very nice. Roomy. Does the roof retract for sunny days and assaults against invading forces?"

"Best thing about a cloth roof," John says, poking the blanket. "Instant sun roof. I've even got a coat rack," he says and points to what is just one of Aeryn's boots with a sweater on it.

Molly laughed. "No fort is complete without a coat rack," she said.

"She'd kill me if she knew I took her shoe for this," John says. "I almost brought one of her shirts to fly as a flag."

Molly just shook her head a little. "You do like living on the edge."

"I'm good at hiding if she does try," John tells her. "How have you been? Getting into mischief?"

Molly smiled broadly. "As a matter of fact, I have," she said.

"Really?" John waggles his eyebrows at her. "Care to elaborate? You know how I love getting into trouble."

"Can't say," she said, still grinning. "It's a secret."

"Oooh," John says and whistles. "Must be some good mischief. Not gonna have to change your name to protect yourself right? Ernestine Hayes doesn't sound as good as Molly."

Molly blinked. "I hope not. I like my name. If an avenging mob comes after me, could I hide out in your fort?"

"I like your name too," John grins. "And yes. My hut is thy hut. It doesn't have defense systems yet but I bet Bridge could rig something up."

"Oh! That would be cool," Molly said. "Do you think everything he came up with would dispense candy? That really would make it the best fort ever."

"Ooooh. I need a sofa," John says. "Maybe he could make one that would make candy came out when you sat down?"

Molly laughed. "What kind of candy would you want to come out of your sofa? Oh! It could be bigger than the stuff that comes out of the other things he's made since a sofa is so much bigger."

"Full size candy bars?" John suggests. "Milky Way and Twix and Snickers fresh from the...sofa?"

"Oh! That would work, yeah. Best sofa ever."

"Sweet!" John turns around in his hut and motions towards one wall. "It'll go right there and then I'll see if I can find the world's longest extension cord and run a television in here too!"

"Oh! Yes! Can't have the best fort ever without a TV," Molly said, nodding. "You'll need a mini fridge too. And a microwave. Bridge can fix those up too. The fridge can dispense soda and the microwave can give you pizza rolls."

"Yes!" John nods cheerfully. "You wanna be co caretaker?"

"Sure!" Molly said enthusiastically. "That would be awesome."
