Careers Fair, Fandom High Front Lawn, Friday Afternoon, 07/21/06

By lunch time, the booths were set up, the guests had arrived and there was quaint music playing from somewhere undetermined. Hawkeye is walking around with one of those portable microphone/speaker set-ups, roaming from booth to booth announcing the various guests that have come to Fandom to talk about their professions.

And despite what the mainland weather forecast said, it was definitely a nice, fine day.

"Good afternoon, students," Cruger says solemnly in greeting.

"Space Patrol Delta was founded by my people in order to deal with criminals who pose a threat to entire planets, or even the galaxy as a whole." Cruger explains. "There is a wide range of career options available at SPD- Officers, who are charged with enforcing galactic laws and bringing in those who would break those laws. Power Rangers, who are SPD Officers who also act as a planet's first line of defense when under attack by hostile forces. And of course, where would we be without the technology that allows us to stay one step ahead of the criminal element? Our Research and Development department is one of the finest this side of the M-51 Galaxy. If you have an interest in keeping your galaxy safe, SPD has a place for you."

After his introductory spiel, the commander sits back down, ready to answer any questions.

Jamie raises his hand. "Excuse me Mr. Doggie? How does your team seem to hang in the air seeming to defy gravity while doing wire-fu martial arts?"

"My name is Commander Cruger," Cruger informs Jamie. "And as for the gravity-defying, it's one of the many special properties of the fabric used to create the Ranger uniforms."

"What's your policy on mutants with special powers," Jamie asked curiously.

"I do not share the prejudices against them that many seem to, if that's what you're asking," Cruger says. "In fact, I strongly believe that people with such abilities can be an asset in the fight against evil."

Hamlet raised his hand. "Are these uniforms flame retardant as well? From what I have heard, it seems as though the SPD teams often encounter situations with a great deal of explosions, and I would hate to think that the officers were constantly in jeopardy."

"They are," Cruger nods solemnly. "The fabric is highly resistant to impacts of concussive force, as well."

Pip raised a hand. "Excuse me, sir? How's the pay in the SPD?"

"I think, perhaps, if you are looking at it for money, then SPD may not be the place for you, young man." Cruger says, not unkindly.

"Well, my family has been doing it for money for like... oh, God knows how many generations now. I'm just curious to see if there's some sort of comparable pay scale, since my grandfather always told me that there was no money in working officially. I wanted to see if he was right or not."

Piper raised her hand. "So SPD's in the evil fighting business, right? That's sort of something I'm gonna be doing with my life. Has SPD ever hired witches with magical powers before?"

Re: LAW ENFORCEMENT

[identity profile] spdemergency.livejournal.com 2006-07-21 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Though SPD has never had a witch among its ranks, there have been witches in non-SPD Ranger teams throughout history. We would definitely consider an applicant with magical abilities to be an asset to SPD." Cruger smiles at her.

"What sort of training does it involve?" Piper asked. She was definitely intrigued.

"And what happens to people who break the law?" Briar tried for innocent.

"SPD utilises capture cards (http://pics.livejournal.com/bridge_carson/pic/0000rgzc/g2) to detain criminals," Cruger says, sliding an empty card across the booth to Briar.

"That's unusual." Briar studied the card but didn't touch it. "How does it work?"

Barring the occassional jaunt off to other booths to go see what they're all about, Bridge is also here, in full dress uniform (http://pics.livejournal.com/bridge_carson/pic/0003zy90/g5), in case anyone wants to talk to *him* and get a Cadet's perspective about SPD.

Xander's pretty sure no one's going to be looking at him to defend the galaxy -- and he's had a Cadet's perspective on SPD, or at least he's had an SPD Cadet, what, somebody had to say it but he wanders in the direction of the Law Enforcement booth anyway, the second he enters the job fair. Funny, that.

"Hey! No career booths for 'is vaguely ok at building stuff, carving stakes, and taking a pie in the face' so I figured I'd wander over here." Xander cocks his head at Bridge. "New uniform?"

A little late and out of breath from rushing, Z joined Bridge and Commander Cruger at the SPD booth. Like Bridge, she was also in full dress uniform. Unlike Bridge, she was wishing rather desperately for pants.

She wasn't sure what use she could be, considering she didn't know that much about what it was like to actually be in SPD herself, but she figured she could at least hand out flyers. "Good afternoon, Commander."

"Oh, yes, sir. Everyone's been very nice and I'm learning so much here." Z surreptitiously tried to pull down the hem of her skirt. "We really need to talk about a uniform redesign, sir. Er. If that's all right."

Cruger raises an eyebrow at the skirt-tugging. "You know, there *is* a pants option for the dress uniform."
