Book Fair

Giles had gotten up at ack o'clock and actually had toted five boxes of books to the Fandom High Gym before he "cheated."

Everything was now set up neatly on tables, and separated by genre.

There was also coffee and hot water urns, bottled water, and a variety of pastries and breads set on a table near the register.

The First Annual Fandom High Book Fair was open for business.

[ooc: Hang on to your collective hats while I get the OCD threads up, please.

Threads are UP. Whew. I think you all know how this works. Go look for a book. Up to you whether you find it or not. No, there is no magic/new age section. Yes, Giles has planned it that way.

That's it! Go to town! Wait. No. Stay here and buy stuff...]

Bel scratched his head as he browsed through the books. He wanted to get a present for Phoebe, but he had no idea what she might like.

Not even frogs would keep Willow away from a book fair.

Of course she looked very skittered and eepy and was clutching Pumpernickel the kitten very close so that none of the frogs could eat him, but she was there.

"Hey, Bel," she said when she saw him at the table.

"Yeah, I noticed," Bel said, glancing around to see if any had invaded the gym. "Not nearly as cute as the kittens."

"They tried to eat me!" Willow said, clearly horrified.

"The kittens tried to eat you?" Bel said, shocked.

"No, the frogs!" Willow said. "I woke up and they were everywhere!"

"And they tried to eat you?" Fire instinctively crackled in Bel's hand as he looked around for the carnivorous frogs.

"They almost ate Pumpernickel too!" Willow said, holding up the very small kitten. Granted she had not actually seen a frog try to eat the kitten, but in Willow's court of law frogs were guilty of such crimes and would never be proven innocent.

"Don't worry," Bel said. "Any of them so much as hop near you and I'll vanquish them."

Willow beamed at him. "Thank you! You can have cookies for that as well. Though I don't have the goat's blood recipe figured out yet."

"Non-goats blood will do just fine," Bel said. Between Piper's brownies and Willow's cookies, he was going to have to start working out more.

On her way through to the Science section, Parker caught sight of Bel. "Uh. Hey, Bel. Looking for something in particular?"

Parker paused, looking over the classics, then pointed out Pride & Prejudice. "She might like that one. It's funny, and it's got a lot of sisters in it." She fiddled with a copy of Mansfield Park, then said, "Thanks for trying the help me yesterday. I wasn't exactly myself."

Bel picked up a copy of Pride & Prejudice. "Thanks, maybe I'll get this then," he said. "And you're welcome. You doing better?"

Parker nodded vehemently, rubbing her eyes. "I haven't gotten much sleep. But yes, Isabel helped me out, like I thought she could. The problem seems to be fading away, for which I'm deeply grateful."

"You know what was causing it?" Bel asked. "'Cause Callisto was acting pretty freaky, too."

Parker made a face. "Someone read a book aloud that they really, really shouldn't have. Everyone in the room when it was read got nightmares, I guess. And the pudding rain, coffee pond, and kittens are just a special side-effect." She sighed. "Mine were just happening while I was awake, too."

Parker grinned. "No, I know it wasn't. The person in question figured it out. And they didn't know it was magic, so... A word to the wise: sounding out old Egyptian phonetically, for any reason? Somewhat dicey." She tilted her head, thinking. "It's been what? Three months, now? Since your change of heart? It seems to be working out for you."

"So far," Bel said, smiling. "It's not easy all the time, but at least the Underworld thinks I'm dead now so I don't have bounty hunters coming after me."

"A happy circumstance. You'll have more time to get your defenses in place, if they ever do figure it out. And more experience around people." She shook her head. "No one off the island knows what you are, right? Aside from Angel."
