Library [06/08]

Rory managed to make it into the library fairly early, dragging the damn book with her as well as her laptop, with a cup of coffee in hand and four wide-eyed, fluffy kittens firmly attached to the legs of her jeans.

The library was open, and would likely remain so for most of the day.

Deciding to try and deal with the whole situation with Alec like it was just another hunt, Dean got up earlier than usual and headed to the library to do some research.

At the very least he hoped to be able to rule out things that weren't responsible. And maybe to see if the general weirdness of the week -- pudding and coffee and kittens, oh my! -- had anything to do with it or was just Fandom being Fandom.

Plucking a black and white kitten from his shirt before it could fall, Dean walked in and saw Rory in amongst many books. And kittens. "Hey, Rory. You the librarian today?"

"Not just today. I'm one of the library aides," she said with a weak smile. "Hi Dean. Can I help you find something?"

"Yeah. Where's your section on the paranormal? I'm looking for stuff on waking nightmares, hallucinations, mind attacks, that sorta thing."

The black and white kitten had squirmed out of Dean's hands and was once again trying to climb him like a tree. "And maybe kitten infestations."

Rory raised a brow. "You know about paranormal stuff? Or is this just a new 'yay, Fandom is weird' kind of interest?"

"Fandom is weird, but I've been dealing with weird almost my whole life." Dean grinned. "It's sorta the family business. My dad's a hunter -- demons, evil spirits, curses, shapeshifters, that sorta thing. If it's evil he hunts it down and kills it."

"...want to help with something?" she asked hesitantly. "'Cause I kind of have a vested interest in all the stuff going on lately - the nightmares and kittens and pudding. 'Cause it...might be kind of my fault."

Dean looked at her more sharply, an effect that was partially ruined by the kitten that was now perched precariously on his shoulder. "How is it kind of your fault?"

Jamie came in with a yearbook under his arm. "Hi. I need to return this, but I was wondering if I could have a couple of pages xeroxed before I do?"

"The irony isn't lost on me," she replied. "And yes, but why are you Xeroxing a yearbook?"

"Yeah I know, that's me: Mr. Duplication. It's Rory right?" Jamie asked with a smile. "I just need a couple of pages copied. There's a girl I knew who used to go here and seeing her picture in there kind of freaked me out."

"Yeah, Rory," she said, nodding. "That's kind of weird. Which girl, if I can ask, I mean?"

It was slowly occuring to her that having a guy who could make copies of himself would be useful. And she probably would have said as much if a kitten hadn't pounced onto her shoulder all cutely.

"Kitty Pryde," Jamie said with a little bit of a dark look. "Not the one that went here... probably. But seeing her in a yearbook memorial page was a little much for me."

He then winced and pulled up a pant leg to remove a kitten that had dug his claws into his legs. "Man, what is it with all the kittens today?"

"Yeah, it's...poor Kitty," Rory said softly. The kidden on her shoulder took that to mean it, apparently, as it began to purr and rub against her cheek. "Anyway, yeah, you can totally make copies of it. Machines are over there. And, um, if you're not busy...want to help us research what's up with the kittens, anyway?"

Z came in with her Angelica Demesnes books, a fuzzy white kitten with very pink ears and a very insistent cry following at her heels, looking worried that she might abandon him. "Hi, Rory. I need to return these. Um, I think they might be late?"

"Mreep?" said the kitten.

"It's okay," Rory told her, taking the books and eyeing the kitten. "You got one of the fretty ones, looks like."

"There are an awful lot of them around, aren't there? I managed to pawn the other one that was stalking me off on the Z that headed into town."

Greg wandered into the library in the middle of the day, bored and in search of a good comic book or two.

"Oh, hi Coffee Girl," he greeted Rory.

Rory looked up. "Oh, you're...the hair guy. I have no idea what your name is, sorry."

"Greg," he supplied, waving. "Though 'hair guy' works too, really."

He glanced around. "What's with the research party? It's summer."

"We're figuring out how to fix something," she said, eyeing him. "Are you the Greg who does sciencey stuff?"

"They have stuff that you can analyze and stuff if you want," Rory told him. She filled him on everything she knew because holy crap I think his player might have an inkling omg and pointed to the researchers. "Go see if you can help with stuff."

Luna wandered in after Nature Magic. There appeared to be a few kittens riding along in her pockets, occasionally the one on the right would bat at something as she passed by.
