Rory, whose hair was already starting to frizz and curl due to humidity, opened up the library Wednesday and plunked herself behind the desk with a book.

She made a mental note to see about getting a fan in there, too. Because gah.

Dawn entered the library and headed straight for the foreign language section. She pulled out the book she'd hidden there on Monday and walked over to the counter. "Hi, Rory. I'd like to check out a book, please."

"Sure, Dawn," Rory replied, reaching for the application forms. "Okay, we need name, year, dorm room - not cabin, I guess, just dorm - and if you want to put whether you're a Chosen One or not, you're allowed but it's not mandatory. We just used to have a dumb rule about not letting people put that on there."

Dawn quickly filled out the application and handed it back. "Not a Chosen One, so it's not an issue. Weird rule, though."

"There were people putting it on there and it made one of the aides annoyed," Rory explained, quickly processing the form. "Said aide doesn't work here anymore, and I'm a good friend with one of the actual Chosen Ones, and it was really helpful for when someone got sick this past spring. So I'm not keeping the rule."

She smiled as she finished with the card. "Okay, what are we checking out today?"

"Someone got sick and needed Chosen Ones?" Dawn asked. "Does that happen a lot? And what did he or she need them for?"

She displayed the book to Rory. "This is the newest step in the how to annoy the Stickbugs program," she said proudly, opening to the page she'd marked when researching with Molly and Isabel. "Ta da!"

Rory bit her lip to keep from laughing. "I like. When are we doing this?"

"As for the Chosen One thing, it was a friend of ours of the undead variety who got poisoned by a not-so-friendly person of the same non-living capacity, and he needed blood of Chosen Ones to live," she explained. "It acted as an antidote, I believe."

"Today, I think," Dawn said, snickering.

It took Dawn a minute to interpret, but she'd read a lot of Giles's old Watchers' Diaries when no one was paying attention she'd done her homework at the Magic Box after school. "Someone used the Killer of the Dead? Here?"

Rory nodded. "That might've been what it was called, yeah. It was this evil vampire Darla who did it to my friend Angel. But he lived and he's fine and all is well."

Dawn didn't slam her head into the desk, but it was close. There was a lot of eyerolling, though. "Darla sucks. And you really found a way to save Angel without draining a slayer? That's impressive."

Not to mention something she'd have to tell her Giles for future reference, since people seemed to like shooting Angel.

The library is open, which means Hermione is there. She walks in and greets Rory with "Hello."

"Hey," Rory said, waving. "You don't want to be outside today, when it's so warm?"

"I'd rather be in here, actually," she says. "How are you?"

"I'm fine. Hot like whoa, but fine," Rory told her with a grin. "How're you?"

"About the same," she says. "I saw you have a new boy working here."

"Tyler, yeah. Because he blew up the common room, the idiot." She rolled her eyes. "But he brought me coffee and seemed okay with doing the work, so whatever."

"He seemed nice enough," she says. "I'm not sure I want to know how he blew up the common room."

"I have no idea how or more importantly why," Rory told her, "but he'll blow up the library over my dead body."

Peter walked into the library late in the morning. It was the first time he had been in here since the end of the spring semester, so it was like meeting an old friend again. "Hey, Rory. How're the books treating you?"

"No one's dead yet, so it's a good day for both Rory and books," she decided. "Hi. How are things?"

"Things are good. I'm still alive despite being in two separate prank wars and having Crazy Hooker and the ninja on campus," Peter said. "That's not easy to do."

Rory smirked. "Yes, see, I think that prank war of ours has really gone far enough. It's getting ridiculous, don't you think?"

"Oh, yes, of course. We should really get together, sign a truce, and have some cheesecake to honor the end of hostilities," Peter said seriously.

"Seriously!" Rory said earnestly. "Maybe tomorrow? Give me time to grab the cheesecake?"

"Sure thing!" Peter said. "And that'll be the last chance to get me with it before we leave the cabins. I'll be away this weekend, so there will be one less person to celebrate the truce."
