Library [05/31]

Rory, whose hair was already starting to frizz and curl due to humidity, opened up the library Wednesday and plunked herself behind the desk with a book.

She made a mental note to see about getting a fan in there, too. Because gah.

Rory smirked. "Yes, see, I think that prank war of ours has really gone far enough. It's getting ridiculous, don't you think?"

"Oh, yes, of course. We should really get together, sign a truce, and have some cheesecake to honor the end of hostilities," Peter said seriously.

"Seriously!" Rory said earnestly. "Maybe tomorrow? Give me time to grab the cheesecake?"

"Sure thing!" Peter said. "And that'll be the last chance to get me with it before we leave the cabins. I'll be away this weekend, so there will be one less person to celebrate the truce."

"Oh? Where are you off to?" she asked curiously.

"Zero's birthday is on Saturday," Peter said. "So if you have any gifts you want me to haul over there, let me know."

"I knew that," she said, smacking her forehead. "I'll have something for you to pass onto her, yeah. Are you staying with her family, then?"

"I'll be more than happy to bring that stuff along." Not looking at all worried, Peter said, "Yeah, staying with her family. Meeting her parents for the first time, too."

"Nervous?" she asked with a raised brow.

"Slightly," Peter said. "The good news is that I have powers that can help me dodge if they really don't like me."

"That'll go well. 'Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Hopeless-Savage. Please allow me to climb this wall to get away now,'" Rory laughed.

"I don't think she's told them that I have powers, so that would be a really big shock for them," Peter said, laughing a little.

"Maybe they'd think it's an illusion," Rory suggested. "One of my friends back home thought that when she met Anakin and he levitated a salt shaker."

"I'm not sure how exactly leaping to the ceiling and not coming down could be considered an illusion, but I suppose that's possible," Peter said. "Hopefully things will go smoothly and nobody will try to hit me with a frying pan or anything so I don't have to worry about it."

"Zero doesn't seem like the offspring of frying pan-wiedlers," Rory mused. "I mean, she has the mallet. I'd think they'd choose a more stylish weapon."

"Great. Now I'm walking into a house filled with punk rockers with sophisticated weaponry," Peter sighed. "That makes me feel better. Thanks."

"But you get to see Zero," she pointed out. "That outweighs the 'eep' factor."

"True," Peter said, smiling just enough to almost hide the fear on his face.

"Anyway, I need books. Stuff to distract me so I don't think about this far too much over the next couple days. Please point me towards good books."

"...can I interest you in our pirate/ninja romance selection?" Rory asked.

"No," Peter said. "I've made a half-hearted effort with those books in the past. No more for me."

"That's very sad," Rory said woefully. "Okay. What do you want to read? Fiction? Non?"

"I've been on a non-fiction kick," Peter said. "It helps make up for the lack of regular education at the moment."

"Okay - sciencey stuff? Biographies? We have a really good book on like, the Spartans," Rory supplied. "I thought it was interesting and I'm Little Miss Fiction."

"Ooh. Spartans," Peter said. "I think I'll go with that, yes. Thank you!"

With a few keystrokes, Rory called up the info on the book and scribbled it down neatly on a slip of paper, which she handed to Peter.

"Over that way," she said, pointing to a section. "And call me if you need help, blah blah, you know the routine."
