Rory, whose hair was already starting to frizz and curl due to humidity, opened up the library Wednesday and plunked herself behind the desk with a book.

She made a mental note to see about getting a fan in there, too. Because gah.

"Tyler, yeah. Because he blew up the common room, the idiot." She rolled her eyes. "But he brought me coffee and seemed okay with doing the work, so whatever."

"He seemed nice enough," she says. "I'm not sure I want to know how he blew up the common room."

"I have no idea how or more importantly why," Rory told her, "but he'll blow up the library over my dead body."

Hermione looks panicked. "Mine, too!"

"But like I said, he seemed well-behaved, and we're going to get new aides in a little while anyway, so it's hardly permanent," Rory sighed.

"Oh?" Hermione says, interested even if the mun isn't around all day to play and she can't have it, woe.

"Yeah, there used to be five of us but now it's just me and Angela, and she's on vacation," she replied. "Tyler's a temp. We'll need to get new people in here soonishly. Definitely before fall."

"What do you have to do, exactly?" she wonders.

"Reshelve books, keep everything organized, hand out library cards, take people through SC," Rory said with a grin.

"How often do you have to go into Special Collections?" asks Hermione. This is just because she's curious.

"Not too often? Adventures like what happened with you and Willow are kind of rare," Rory replied. "Usually we just take people back there to grab a book and we're out immediately."

"Oh," she says, and all right, maybe the Gryffindor in her is a little disappointed by that. "You must like it, if you're still doing it."

"I have yet to have a negative experience with the library, or any library," she said. "Zero was possessed by it, so she's understandably wary. But I've never had a problem."

Hermione frowns. "Possessed?"

"She signed a contract that made the library talk to her and control her sometimes," she explained.

"...Why?"

"I don't actually know," Rory said. "I think she didn't know what it was when she signed it."

"I'll have to remember that," Hermione says thoughtfully. "The library writes deceptive contracts."

"Uh huh. Just basically don't sign anything that randomly shows up," Rory said, nodding. "Otherwise the main library is fine, really."

"It sounds simple enough," she says with a nod.

"It's a pretty good rule for anywhere on campus, really," she said, considering.

"True," Hermione nods. "I think I'm going to go back into the history section today, see what looks interesting. Besides all of it."

"Shout if you need anything," Rory said, smiling. "Or, well, call quietly unless you're actually in danger, because shouting would be okay in that instance."

Hermione smiles back. "All right," she says. "I'll see you later, Rory."
