As the sun disappeared below the horizon on Monday evening, large, bright lights came on, illuminating the front lawn of Fandom High. There was a stage area with several chairs for the administration and special guests, as well as a podium and microphone. On the grass in front of the stage are rows and rows of chairs for parents, guardians, siblings and friends of the graduating seniors, as well as enough chairs for any faculty, townies and students who decide to attend. There is an aisle free down the middle and reserved seats in the front row for the graduating seniors.

All in all, the place looks fantastic decked out in blue and gold thanks to the efforts of the freshmen on the graduation committee.

Oh yes. Then there's the inflatable gremlin filled with helium off to the side that's the size of the building. It looks kind of cute, actually, just floating there while tied to the ground.

Sam took a seat and pulled some tissues out of her pocket, holding them in her hand.

Janet snuck in and sat down next to Sam. "Hey," she said quietly.

Elizabeth dropped down into the seat the other side of Janet, and then started checking her camera. Although she'd probably have been better off doing it before she came. Never mind.

Janet smiled over at Liz. "How's it going?"

Elizabeth looked up and smiled at Janet. "Hey. Things are quiet. That is both rare and good. How's you?"

Janet shrugged. "Not bad. Kind of bored waiting for everything to get started."

"Okay, let's alleviate that boredom," Elizabeth said, turning off the camera, satisfied that she would be able to use it at least.

"Camera working okay?" asked Janet, nodding at it. "And yes, let's alleviate it. Though it's a graduation ceremony. They're usually boring."

"Looks like it, yeah," Elizabeth nodded. "Haven't used it in a while, so I probably should have tested it before I came!" She rolled her eyes slightly. "God, yes. I would have bought a book, but I'd feel slightly more guilty about it than I did in the past."

Kawalsky came in and sat on the other side of Sam.

"Hey, you," she smiled at him. "Happy graduation."

"Happy graduation and happy...birthday I think too?"

"Yup." She nodded, "Thanks for remembering."

"Don't thank me too much," he replied. "Your present's still in the mail."

Angela turned around from her seat nearby. "It's your birthday? Congratulations, Sam," she said. "Which one?"

It took her a minute. "Eighteen. And thanks, Angela."

"Oh, that's a a big one," Angela said. "Cool. So are you going to go out after graduation and ... vote, or buy porn, or whatever?"

"Hey, you. Happy birthday," Daniel smiled, moving into a free seat nearby.

He didn't know any of the graduating seniors really, but going to graduation was the sort of thing teachers did. Right?

"Thanks, Da-Doctor Jackson," she said, glancing around, then looking apologetically at him. "Nice of you to come. I'm sure the seniors will appreciate it."

Daniel chuckled. "Not that I really know any of them, but still," he grinned. He leaned in. "Presents are at the apartment still, for whenever you can make it."

"Thanks," she said, squeezing his forearm. "When are you leaving? I know Janet was thinking of getting a small group together for dinner to celebrate. Fort..eighteen isn't...well, I didn't want a big party."

"You've got me for a little longer still," he grinned. "You think I'd miss your birthday? Besides, I'm whisking J... someone away first before I head to Egypt."

"Whisking, huh?" Sam grinned. "Good for you."

She restrained herself from asking whether it would be just the two of them making the trip. Some things she wasn't ready to know just yet.

"Hey, a guy needs something to last him through lonely weeks in the desert," Daniel grinned, winking at her.

Sam laughed. "Okay, that may have been more information than I needed."
