Fandom High Graduation Ceremony Class of 2006 - Monday night

[OOC: This post is open for slow-play. Take your time and please remember that this is all about the seniors!]

As the sun disappeared below the horizon on Monday evening, large, bright lights came on, illuminating the front lawn of Fandom High. There was a stage area with several chairs for the administration and special guests, as well as a podium and microphone. On the grass in front of the stage are rows and rows of chairs for parents, guardians, siblings and friends of the graduating seniors, as well as enough chairs for any faculty, townies and students who decide to attend. There is an aisle free down the middle and reserved seats in the front row for the graduating seniors.

All in all, the place looks fantastic decked out in blue and gold thanks to the efforts of the freshmen on the graduation committee.

Oh yes. Then there's the inflatable gremlin filled with helium off to the side that's the size of the building. It looks kind of cute, actually, just floating there while tied to the ground.

Janet shrugged. "Not bad. Kind of bored waiting for everything to get started."

"Okay, let's alleviate that boredom," Elizabeth said, turning off the camera, satisfied that she would be able to use it at least.

"Camera working okay?" asked Janet, nodding at it. "And yes, let's alleviate it. Though it's a graduation ceremony. They're usually boring."

"Looks like it, yeah," Elizabeth nodded. "Haven't used it in a while, so I probably should have tested it before I came!" She rolled her eyes slightly. "God, yes. I would have bought a book, but I'd feel slightly more guilty about it than I did in the past."

"Have you used that since the Christmas pageant?" asked Janet. She nodded in agreement. "At least we don't have that many seniors graduating. We can hope they'll keep the ceremony short."

"Um. No. I don't think I have actually," Elizabeth admitted, looking down at it. "I need to take more pictures this summer." She glanced up at the stage. "We can only hope."

"You might want to consider using it more often, yes," said Janet, giggling. "Pictures of what? We're not going to have some kind of summer production or something like that, are we?"

"You never know," Elizabeth said darkly. "Who knows what these workshops will involve!" She shook her head and grinned. "Well, if we're hitting New York and DC, they're always good for pictures. And just people in general, I guess."

"If there's public perfomance in a workshop, I'm not taking it," said Janet. She looked slightly panicked. "You have to take a camera to the museums, definitely. I need to remember to carry my camera around in case of embarrassing moments."

"I wasn't suggesting that you should, hon," Elizabeth said calmly, patting Janet's knee. "Just merely supposing based on my own prior knowledge of summer camps." She nodded. "I was thinking maybe we could head into DC for July 4th. It'll be crazy busy, but the fireworks over the Washington Memorial are spectacular."

"I was wondering if you'd gone temporarily insane," said Janet. "Hey, it happens! Though mostly to Daniel." Janet looked thoughtful. "That could be fun. I think I might need to visit Uncle George if we go to DC. He's a little peeved that I never write."

Elizabeth giggled. "I'm still as sane as I ever was. I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that," she said, winking. "We could do a long-weekend and we wouldn't be holding hands at that point."

Janet stuck her tongue out at Liz. "I drew my conclusions about that ages ago," she said. "Maybe we should let Uncle George take us all to the Air & Space museum? And no! He nearly flipped out about the zombies alone."

Re: Welcome!

Elizabeth smiled at her sweetly. "I'm sure you did," she replied. "Will he be better or worse than Sam lecturing?" she asked thoughtfully. "Gah. I hate that we're reduced to the same category as zombies."

"I'm not fooled by that smile any more, you know," said Janet. "He'll be less technically-oriented." Janet glanced over at Sam and looked sheepish. "Well. He knows about the zombies?" She nudged Liz with her shoulder. "But it's amazing how Uncle George knows about none of my relationships."

Erm. No blushing there.

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"That's a pity," Elizabeth grinned. She glanced past Janet towards Sam. "Well, that'll be something, I guess." She nudged Janet back. "I'm amazed he even knows about the zombies. How does he know about the zombies?"

Dropping relationship talk. They did that last week. That was enough. And certainly not something to be brought up in a graduation audience.
janet_fraiser: (oh boy)

Re: Welcome!

[personal profile] janet_fraiser 2006-05-09 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"No, definitely not a pity. Not from my pint of view." She grinned. "Oh, God. Long story. Which I forgot to tell you. I got distracted. I'll tell you later?"

They certainly could drop that. Yay.

Elizabeth just snickered, before looking at Janet curiously. "Yes, you will tell me later," she said. "Even if I have to get you drunk first."

"I think that's probably what it will take," said Janet, nodding. "So, ready to be a senior?"

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"With what we've got in the room? No problem," Elizabeth grinned. She shrugged. "Yeah, I guess. How about you?"

Janet smiled. "We'll see," she said. "Yeah. It'll be an interesting year."

Re: Welcome!

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Elizabeth repeated quietly. She reached to take Janet's hand and smiled softly at her.
