Summer Shenanakins, Wednesday 7/6/22

The park was space themed today (thanks for the help, squirrels). For a given and confusing value of “space themed.” There was a space-themed inflatable obstacle course. There were star and planet decorations hung up everywhere (who had hung them up? Possibly squirrels). There were little toy spaceships. There was a large inflatable pool full of very dark and glittery jello.

The only thing missing today was Anakin. In his place was Stark, looking a bit lost even though he’d somehow planned all of this. Actually, the megaphone was missing as well. Stark was just going to yell instead.

“Anakin isn’t here but he wanted me to do this. I don’t know why. I don’t know why he does anything.” Did anyone truly understand Anakin’s motivations?

“We have 4 different activities today. An obstacle course. Stomp rockets. Planetary rings. And…jello.” Everyone, be sure to thank Summer for activity number 4!

“Listen for your names, collect your shirts, and…enjoy? Oh. And no powers.” That was cheating!

Dwight was relieved when his name wasn't called and decided to stick around for a bit and watch the fun. He could use the break and time out of the shop anyway.

Since Triumph had definitely come in handy last week, Graham was definitely making sure to bring him along to the park today....not that he wouldn't have otherwise, of course, because strolling into the park every Wednesday was now just one of the things that they did, but he was going to definitely keep the dramatic entrances down to a mild appearance today....and he was definitely doing his best to avoid any trees.

"Ohmygod," said Summer, holding out her shirt to admire it before she put it on, "the only thing wrong with this shirt is that it isn't pink."

She would totally be wearing it behind the bar tonight if that post hadn't already been made!

"Oh!" Libby's eyes were wide with delight, because this was more like it, and the style of the shirt was definitely going to make Zo jealous, and at least it wasn't more Jesus socks. "One's even a robot!"

She really sort of appreciated that kind of detail in this absolute ridiculousness.

Even if he wasn't always absolutely thrilled when his name was called for these events, Sidon would still feel practically obligated to participate if only because they somehow always seemed to still find a shirt that would manage to fit him!

And this one even had sharks on it!

"Magnificent!" he said, also grateful for the style of the shirt with buttons that allowed him to put it on without the pesky trouble of his head being difficult to get through the holes, and then smoothed it out over his chest to admire it whilst on.

Graham had barely gotten his shirt on before he felt an odd tug at the back, and that odd tug was Triumph clearly trying to eat it.

To be fair, that had nothing to do with the fact that the shirt featured various foods, though.

Activity 1: Bouncy Space Obstacle Course!

Two members from each team (Miguel+Alara, Libby+Rey, Hannibal+Vi, Sakaki+Isabela) will race through the bouncy obstacle course. Best combined time wins!

Miguel looked at Alara and smirked. "I think we've got this." After all, having super strength and speed wasn't a power if you couldn't turn it off.

There was probably a great many jokes that could be made about Isabela and bouncy obstacles courses, and she was thinking more than a few of of them as she looked around for her teammate.

Libby was already giving her partner for this one an apologetic grin. "This doesn't look too hard," she offered, although she was probably encouraging herself more than Rey. At least she was wearing jeans and not her skirts! But the athletics stuff was never really her strong point.

Activity 2: Stomp Rockets

The next member of each team (Graham, Lana, Jon, Eddie) will build some stomp rockets with moddable materials. Farthest launch wins!

Graham said this like he even had the faintest idea what a stomp rocket was before today, but now that he did know, he was very into it, even if he was definitely getting just a bit tangled up in the materials as he tried to build his. Not a lot of rockets around Llewdor, after all, but he felt he was starting to really get it after a few moments.

His stomping efforts, left much to be desired.

"Clearly," he said, "I need to pay more attention to leg day."

Or pretty much everything day, Graham.

Activity 3: Planetary Rings!

The next group of competitors (Steph, Belle, Jo, Guillermo) has to throw 4 rings around a planet. The rings get smaller each time and you have to throw from farther away. At least it isn't messy at all!

How the hell did Steph manage to do this before everyone else? No idea. She was just going to say she rolled a real-life natural 20, because while she had pretty good hand-eye coordination for other things that she did, she wasn't sure how any of them translated into ring toss. But hey. She'd take it.

Belle, now clad in her shark shirt, did fine on her first throw. Unfortunately that was the only time she did well this round.

Activity 4: Space Jello!

No, it’s not wrestling. Well, it’s not meant to be wrestling. It can absolutely devolve into wrestling. The final competitors from each team (Will, Sidon, Summer, Goose) have to climb into the pool full of dark, glittery jello that you really can't see through and search for some moddable space toys! First player to place 3 items in their team’s space bucket wins.

Oh no, did Stark forget to explicitly state that you can’t steal items from someone else before they make it to a bucket? GO WILD!

"I'm just going to start out by saying," Summer declared, holding up her hands and sending an unapologetic grin over to her competitors, "the planets have clearly been aligned for something, it's been nice knowing you guys, I'll see you jerks on the otherside with a bucket full of that sweet, sweet jello swag."

And, with that, she wasted not a second more in jumping right into that pool and getting to work.

And boy would it be embarrassing if she didn't end up winning this one, huh?
