Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, this was certainly something new, and Sidon had to chuckle, positively delighted to be able to look at someone without craning his own neck or straining his poor, hunched back. His posture truly had taken a toll since coming here, so he took advantage of the opportunity to square his shoulders properly and actually stand to his full height for a change.

"Thank you!" he gushed over the compliment, grinning extra wide for her now that she could see them even closer. "Though I'm afraid they don't go back very far; it's only the one row. I understand sharks of this world have several, but I am not a shark. I am a Zora! I am actually Sidon!" And here, he pumped his fist across his chest, and grinned one more time, this time catching the light just right to make one of those excellent teeth sparkle. "The Zora Prince! And Zora share very few things in common with sharks, beyond a need for water and a few intriguing aesthetic similarities."

“I see you’re doing your part to keep the students prepared,” Hannibal noted.

He'd end up slaughtering a few gremlins, Sparkle. It was his thing.

"Green things that bite."

Internet. It was all the internet.

"Sounds like they have too much time on their hands," Trevor settled on. Because his focus tended to be on survival, finding some beer, and killing bad things because he had guilt issues.

Well, that worked too. He was just a good meat shield for his party.

"Yeah," he agreed, already digging for his bag of GORP to offer her some. Despite the pile of food right next to them.

"It was," Breq said. "I met a group of bird children who loved singing."

That had been the best part.

Was she ever? At best, she was tolerant of it when it happened. And, you know, secretly liked it. He was the only one who hugged her aside from Bellamy, and the Blakes mostly reserved that kind of thing for dramatic reunions.

Still, she made sure to sigh and pat his back. "Hi, Magnus."

"I sell clothes," Sparkle confirmed, finding that he really actually liked the sound of that word. 'Merchant.' Made him sound way more put-together than 'clothing store guy,' anyway. "And sometimes soap, I guess. But mostly clothes."

Her hair was fascinating, holy shit.

"Oh, I intend to take full advantage of your hands, then," Vette laughed.

... And if it was anybody else, maybe there would have been a dirty implication behind that statement. But Vette was not actually the dirty-minded Twi'lek girl that half the glaxy suspected she might be.

"If you don't mind carrying about eight kilos of potato chips, I mean."

She was stockpiling for winter or something.

"Somebody has to, right?" Sparkle lifted his shoulders in a shrug. "I mean, every fucking winter I end up with like a half-dozen students stumbling into my shop who don't know what the hell snow is. Might as well nip that in the bud now, right?"

"Hallucinogenic venom," Sparkle supplied. "Not the great time it sounds like, unless you get to witness it instead of experience it first-hand."

"Oh my god," Sparkle said, blinking. "That sounds adorable, I'm sorry I didn't get to see that."

"How was your Candlenights?" He asked like anyone but him here celebrated it.

"They were happy to sing for me all afternoon. I remember some of the melodies, but I can't actually sing them correctly of course," Breq said.

They had been adorable.

"You'd probably have to be a bird," or a small flock of birds, "to manage that, huh?" Sparkle smiled faintly. "There are some avian people in Atton's galaxy, but I've never had the pleasure of meeting them myself. I'm kind of jealous."

Entrapta was only listening to about half of that, her hair pulling out a tape measure to get a general idea of how big he was. "I didn't think you were a shark," she said, darting around him to measure every conceivable part of him. "I thought you might be a princess, though. Princess? Prince. Oh! You said you were!"

She was back to excited again. "Are you from Etheria, too?"

"They did," Lana agreed. "Though I've never met a Rishii, either. Zora's domain was lovely - I met one of their elders and helped him document some of their old stelai. They've got a fascinating history."

She smirked just a little. "Two of the zora when we first got in were determined to find out if I were Prince Sidon's special friend. Did you encounter them, too?"

"Tula and Tona?" See Vette. See Vette groan and attempt to hide her face in one of her takeaway boxes.

... Mmmm. Cookie box.

"Yeaaaah, we met."

Space, had they ever met.

"Clothes, huh?" Entrapta looked unimpressed. Considering she was wearing a grease-stained t-shirt and a pair of purple coveralls, clothes likely didn't place high on her interests. "Is there a place I can go for useful things?"

Not nice to say to the guy just handed you clothing to keep warm, Entrapta. Though, to be honest, when she got cold, she mostly just bundled in her hair.

Of course.

Sparkle managed, mostly, to refrain from giving her a stinkeye.

"Depends what you consider useful," he replied. "Food? Music?"

"A sound theory," Hannibal agreed. "I haven't met any of the new students yet, though."

"I don't celebrate it," Octavia pointed out, pulling away. "You know that."

"Well," Sparkle mused, nodding around the crowd, "there's hungry boy with the nice coat, he seems pretty okay. Purple hair nest girl thinks clothes are stupid, so pfft, fine, whatever, kid. And there's kid with the cat head over there, she seems like she knows what's up."

He liked cat head kid.

"I'm still keeping an eye out for more. Gotta throw hats at everyone's head."

Hannibal looked at each of them as Sparkle pointed them out. "They all seem fairly non-standard for our Earths, so it should be an interesting time. You're not teaching this semester?"

"Do they sing too?" Breq asked. "I don't know of any similar species in my universe."
