Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Tula and Tona?" See Vette. See Vette groan and attempt to hide her face in one of her takeaway boxes.

... Mmmm. Cookie box.

"Yeaaaah, we met."

Space, had they ever met.

Lana grinned. "Them, yes. I take it they found you, too."

Vette mumbled something into her cookies that might or might not have parsed as, "When they found out it was me, I thought they were going to die."

Or that maybe she might, in her sleep, while nobody else was paying attention.

"Oh, dear." Lana shook her head. "I'd say you should've strung them along, but I'm sure the moment Sidon showed up, he'd have made it rather obvious."

Sidon was many things. Subtle wasn't even in his vocabulary.

"I mean, I did, for a while," Vette admitted. "But like you said... it would've been hard to miss. So I told them, and then one of them started crying about blue and they made plans to set up a blue-scaled Zora lady with someone who wasn't Sidon to get her off the market."

Which mostly suggested to Vette that they weren't holding their breath for this thing to last long. And maybe by Zora standards that was even true! But they could've at least been more subtle about it.

Lana blinked at her. "Is the entire Zora race allergic to subtlety?" she asked. "Not to mention I doubt he likes you for your colour. I hope the rest of your reception was better."

"Sure," Vette replied. "Raiding the evil doom castle was pretty fun."

She hadn't found anything of any worth, but the getting there had been enjoyable?

"It was," Lana agreed. "And the people were all so friendly!" It was a little odd, but not unpleasant.

"Yes. They were... all... so..." Vette waved a hand. She'd had the distinct impression from at those first two that they would happily murder her in her sleep for a shot at dating her boyfriend, so she'd sort of slept with one eye open while in Zora's Domain, even if the inn was perfectly safe. "I mean, the feast was kind of them, right?"

"Possibly back-stabbing, but still friendly," Lana amended. "And it really was. So do you think you could live there?"

Nosy and matchmaking? Her? Naaah.

Vette blinked.

"I mean... it is beautiful," she replied. "And it'd be nice if it was an option if I never manage to make it back to my version of home, right...?"

She hadn't ruled out the possibility that she might end up having to pick someone else's world simply by necessity.

She could always come back with Lana, but there was no guaranteeing it was precisely the same version, and...well, then there was the Empire.

"I'm sure it would be an option if Sidon has any say in it," she said.

She dropped the teasing.

"You didn't have any problems there apart from jealousy, did you?"

Yeah, but it wasn't like Vette's luck was going to be great with her own Empire, either.

And don't even start about Zakuul.

"Well," she noted, "there's also the little problem where I take to water like a dewback, which I figure might put me at a little bit of a disadvantage."

Most conversation she'd had with Sidon that hadn't happened on some semblance of land had been punctuated with, 'pbbbth.'

Lana laughed. "There's always diving equipment. And their domain isn't entirely underwater, after all."

"It's not," Vette agreed, "but you should have seen my totally impressive tuk'ata paddle into the lake the other day. There's no way I'd be able to avoid it."

Had Lana seen Sidon? They went swimming as dates.

"So you'll learn," Lana said. "I imagine you've got an enthusiastic teacher."

"I had to paddle so faaaar."

See Vette. See Vette whining mostly just beacuse she could.

Lana rolled her eyes. "That's what happens when you date a semi-aquatic species." She imagined. She'd never dated anyone before.

"You could always break up with him if you'd rather."

Lana would not want to be the person who tried to break up with Sidon.

Lana, Vette was wasting food now. Because it was very important that she throw a handful of potato chips at you.

"Don't even joke about that!"

Tula and Tona would no doubt manage to just magically be aware those words were spoken and they'd start to plot. Of that, Vette was certain.

That's okay; Lana was catching them with the Force and eating one.

"So learn to swim," she said, grinning. "There's a pool in the dorms if it's too cold outside now."

"Yeah," Vette sighed, "but Sidon is convinced they're poisoning the pool water."

"Poisoning it?" Lana blinked. "Why in the galaxy would he think that? I can test if it it'll make him easier about it."

"It's got some kind of chemical treatment in it," Vette explained. "To keep germs out, I guess? But since his skin kinda sucks it all up..."

She wrinkled her nose a little.

"I guess it would be a little more poison to people who are sensitive to the state of the water."

"Ah, I see what you mean," Lana said. "Yes, I would imagine it's a bit unpleasant. Can't they use some other method? Ultraviolet light or something? I wouldn't want to swim in chemicals myself, and I'm not even aquatic."

Nor was she apprenticed to Darth Zash, luckily.

Darth Zash was... definitely pickled.

"I don't know," Vette sighed. "I'm about as familiar with this world as you are, remember? Maybe less."

Lana at least had the benefit of knowing the alphabet right up front.
