Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone had been keeping a close eye on the weather, and gave a sigh of relief as it turned out to be a pretty decent day. Sure, it was still a little warm, but it wasn't humid, or raining something strange. You had to take your wins where you could get them around here.

As usual, there was a buffet of food awaiting the folks on the welcome shuttle, and blue and gold tables and chairs were set up across the lawn, most still covered in glitter from the last picnic. Sorry not! Happy picnic day!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Kanan was going to just... facepalm.

Because there was no point even lying.

"It's in one piece and driving just as well as it did when I left with it," he replied. "I made a point to go through and repair all the wiring before parking it again for you."

He reached into his pocket, pulled out the keys, and tossed them back to Anakin.

"Safe and sound."

That part in the middle didn't match up with the bookends of that statement at all, did it?

Oh look, now Kanan was reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose, quietly wishing for death to claim him!

"Beeeecause I took five minutes to go get a coffee."

Because teenagers were evil.

"And what happened in those five minutes?" Anakin asked, sounding resigned.

He wasn't screaming "MY BAAAAAAAABY?!" at least?

Kanan was very, very thankful for that, yes.

"The two perky ones had it up and running and were about to drive off with it," Kanan sighed. "You'll want to keep an eye on those ones."

Nina and Vette were menaces.

Anakin glanced around. "Which two? They're all too perky."

"Not all of them," Kanan noted, vaguely. "It's that one," he pointed out Nina, who had started up a conversation with Hera, "and the new Twi'lek girl who'll be the handful his semester, from the look of it."

Not the most confusing ones. Definitely not the ones that were freaking Kanan out a little. But a handful.

"Five minutes to rewire the bus, huh," Anakin said, noting the two students. "Special powers or just really focused?"

"That second one, I think," Kanan replied. "After I chased them out of the driver's seat, they weren't about to tell me."

They mostly just wanted to tell him that he was a failure as a bus driver. Sigh.

Anakin snorted. "Yeah, I'll bet. Five minutes, though? Impressive."

Most impressive.

"Yeah," Kanan said, shaking his head. "Either that Twi'lek kid is that good, or she lucked out and crossed the right wires by accident."

Either way, he was less concerned about her than one of the other students. But in hindsight, maybe he shouldn't be. At least the Sith girl didn't seem like she was looking to pick up anything that wasn't bolted down to make off with it.

"Maybe get her into the junkyard and give her a place to use such talent productively?" Anakin said. "Or stick her in detention forever?"

Kanan was calling Not It, here.

"Yeah," Kanan agreed. "And I'm not shoving her at the junkyard. Hera's a Twi'lek too, sure, but there are ships in the junkyard."

Wasn't your ship there, Anakin?

It seemed like a good suggestion to Kanan, anyway. Great Jedi that he was.

"Smart," Kanan decided with a shrug. "I'm almost curious enough to bribe them to buzz off for a bit, now."

Almost. It was tempting.

"I could make a list," he admitted. "One of these days I'll remember how to let go of a grudge. This apparently isn't that day."

Basically everything in Kanan's life was a work in progress. Why would this be any different?
