Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone had been keeping a close eye on the weather, and gave a sigh of relief as it turned out to be a pretty decent day. Sure, it was still a little warm, but it wasn't humid, or raining something strange. You had to take your wins where you could get them around here.

As usual, there was a buffet of food awaiting the folks on the welcome shuttle, and blue and gold tables and chairs were set up across the lawn, most still covered in glitter from the last picnic. Sorry not! Happy picnic day!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Not all of them," Kanan noted, vaguely. "It's that one," he pointed out Nina, who had started up a conversation with Hera, "and the new Twi'lek girl who'll be the handful his semester, from the look of it."

Not the most confusing ones. Definitely not the ones that were freaking Kanan out a little. But a handful.

"Five minutes to rewire the bus, huh," Anakin said, noting the two students. "Special powers or just really focused?"

"That second one, I think," Kanan replied. "After I chased them out of the driver's seat, they weren't about to tell me."

They mostly just wanted to tell him that he was a failure as a bus driver. Sigh.

Anakin snorted. "Yeah, I'll bet. Five minutes, though? Impressive."

"Yeah," Kanan said, shaking his head. "Either that Twi'lek kid is that good, or she lucked out and crossed the right wires by accident."

Either way, he was less concerned about her than one of the other students. But in hindsight, maybe he shouldn't be. At least the Sith girl didn't seem like she was looking to pick up anything that wasn't bolted down to make off with it.

"Maybe get her into the junkyard and give her a place to use such talent productively?" Anakin said. "Or stick her in detention forever?"

Kanan was calling Not It, here.

"Yeah," Kanan agreed. "And I'm not shoving her at the junkyard. Hera's a Twi'lek too, sure, but there are ships in the junkyard."

Wasn't your ship there, Anakin?

It seemed like a good suggestion to Kanan, anyway. Great Jedi that he was.

Anakin snickered before remembering he was the Ethics teacher. "That's probably wrong."

Wasn't gonna stop him, apparently.

"Smart," Kanan decided with a shrug. "I'm almost curious enough to bribe them to buzz off for a bit, now."

Almost. It was tempting.

Ah, hell, that one got a chuckle out of Kanan, too.

"I could make a list," he admitted. "One of these days I'll remember how to let go of a grudge. This apparently isn't that day."

Basically everything in Kanan's life was a work in progress. Why would this be any different?

"That we're not making much progress on," Anakin said. "Because we don't really don't want to."

"I... kind of want to," Kanan sighed. "Getting to the wanting to is also a work in progress."

He paused for a moment, and then added, "So, what else do you know about the other new kids?"

"Not much more than their names, schedule, and room assignments," Anakin said. "Why?"

Kanan was quiet for a few moments. Well... hell.

"I'm keeping an eye on one in particular," he said, finally. "She's in my class. I've got some concerns, but..." He made a so-so gesture with one hand. "Not as many as I could. Want me to keep you apprised of that situation once I know more?"

The situation he hadn't said anything about beyond, 'hey, it's a situation.' That one.

Kanan glanced that way, just briefly. And then he nodded.

"Yeah," he agreed. "That one."

Pretty damn open about what she was.

... Weirdly reasonable. It was breaking Kanan's brain.
