Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone had been keeping a close eye on the weather, and gave a sigh of relief as it turned out to be a pretty decent day. Sure, it was still a little warm, but it wasn't humid, or raining something strange. You had to take your wins where you could get them around here.

As usual, there was a buffet of food awaiting the folks on the welcome shuttle, and blue and gold tables and chairs were set up across the lawn, most still covered in glitter from the last picnic. Sorry ~~not~~! Happy picnic day!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

219 - Nell Ingram / Lana Beniko
221 - Nina / Vette
302 - Jason Lee Scott / Prompto Argentum
411 - Gratuity Tucci / Simon Spier

Like, almost all of them are decent role models, it's so impressive.

Okay, so this whole thing was continuing to not be the spooky ruins of an ancient tomb that Vette had started her day in. She'd gone from the weird spaceport with the ground-based transports to...

... A picnic.

Where she was staring at a list of nametags in a state of bemusement, trying to puzzle out which of those things was meant to say her name. Because apparently somebody had known she was coming. Which, honestly, was just one more point in the 'probably just a weird hallucination brought on by tainted tomb air' ticky box if ever she saw one.

"And of course this hallucination comes with a room," Vette said, in a tone of voice that suggested that she was kind of pushing past her disbelief now and was settling into a state of resignation, instead. "Hey, can somebody tell me what this says?"

The school was trusting Norman with a new kid again? Well, he could live with that, he supposed. He straightened out the nametag on his chest, and then, with a little smile on his face, he got to looking around for a 'Nell.'

Girl, boy, giant shark person... Whatever sort of sibling Nell turned out to be, Norman was fairly certain he was ready, this time.

When Fjord had turned in to sleep last night, his plans for the next day had included 'wake up,' 'eat food,' and 'travel.'

So far he'd accomplished the first, was tabling the second for the moment, and was growing increasingly less concinved that he'd manage the third at all by the time he made his way to... some manner of gathering that consisted, mainly, of young humans mulling around food tables in the courtyard of a castle. Since the town's guard didn't seem to have any interest in him, he wandered into that gathering, hoping, perhaps, for some answers.

Expecting more questions, though. He was definitely expecting anything that happened here to lead to far more questions than answers.

Okay! Teaching! Zack could do this!

Zack was so at a loss for what he was actually doing here today, but he slapped on a nametag and was making to mingle all the same, doing his best to look approachable. He'd even left his sword at home. Because approachable.

He was totally bouncing anxiously on his toes. Don't judge him.

Kanan was not going to murder the new students. Kanan was not going to murder the new students. Kanan was not--

Kanan was slightly later to the picnic than he would have liked, today. After all, he had to stay behind after dropping off the students and directing them toward the picnic so that he could repair the wiring in the damn bus before returning it to Skywalker. But now he was here, grudgingly putting on a nametag and doing his best to look at least slightly approachable.

He needed another coffee, damn it. He was not equipped to deal with teenage girls at all.

It was a new semester! There were new students! And that meant that Sidon was ready to jump in to assist as a Big Sibling yet again! Naturally, he was incredibly excited to meet his new friend and hoped he would continue to be an excellent guide for the new students under his fins, but first, of course, he had to find him. Or her. Or them.

Being so big and large...and red, he knew he wouldn't likely have trouble locating the newest sibling, drifting over toward the tables where people would get their nametags and room assignments, took a look around, and then opened his arms as he bellowed, "Hello, new students! Might one of you by chance be called Nina?"

Prompto wasn't really surprised that he'd wind up with a roommate; after all, it was a boarding school, wasn't it? Rommates were just sort of things that happened at boarding schools, he figured, but he hadn't really thought about it until just that moment, directed to the table to scope of his room assignment.

His parents were never home much, so he'd practically lived alone most of his entire life. BUt instead of feeling uncomfortable with the idea, he felt a surge of excitement. He'd practically lived alone his entire life, but that didn't mean he'd wanted to. It was going to be weird and take some getting used to, but not being alone all the time...

...assuming his roomie was cool, anyway, but everyone had seemed pretty great so far. He looked around a little, trying to discern who this Jason guy might be, hopefully without looking too obvious about it.

Well, there was someone who had at least one question for him, but she probably didn't look much like a town guard. Amaya'd agreed to help out with the whole new teacher thing again, especially now that she was starting to feel like an old hat about it, and the real trick was always just finding the right person. It helped with it being a small island; you could pick out new faces pretty easily.

And, well, when those faces were green and definitely not ones you'd seen before...

She hesitated, just a little, because she figured while she'd likely be one of the better equipped of her peers to deal with something like what looked like a half-orc if she wasn't mistaken, that was kind of like using a rusty hammer because it was literally your only one. And, well, some of the other staff about the school subverted her expectations pretty well, so she'd just have to trust that the school knew what it was doing.

If anything, it probably wouldn't hurt to help out a half-orc if he was somehow lost.

So there came her one question: "Errr, you wouldn't happen to be a fella called Fjord, would you?"

After a couple rounds of these picnics, Amaya had to admit she was feeling like a regular old veteran to them by now, even if it always made her feel a little strange if she thought about it too much. Her! Teaching! It was still kind of bizarre, but it also made her feel proud, and now she had confidence to go right along with it. Always good to see the new students, too, wondering what surprises another new semester might bring.

Prompto's camera finger was definitely getting a work-out today; he barely stopped taking pictures the whole way over to the picnic and did't imagine he'd stop any time soon, either.

Still, one of his favorites was definitely going to be the selfie he snapped once he got his nametag, slapped it onto his vest, and then tried a few poses until he got one right that showed the tag well enough to read it, figuring Noctis would get a kick out of it. And then he kind of poked at it a little, grinning down at it dorkily, adjusting it, adjusting his vest, puffing out his chest a little as if to display it more, then laughing at himself, shaking his head, telling himself to stop being such a nerd, but he couldn't help it! He was just too excited!

He had a nametag. It was right there with all the other ones. Right now, he belonged to something, and the physical proof was right there below his favorite 'It's a Beautiful Day. Now Watch Some Bastard Fuck It Up' patch.

Hannibal was here, looking tan and...well, he always seemed fairly relaxed, so that was no different. Jono wasn't the only one who'd found staying in Panama tempting, though.

However, he had a teaching buddy (a pastor?), and there were new students to figure out, so here he was.

"Ah-" Fjord paused, cleared his throat, and said, "I'm Fjord," he pronounced it 'Ford,' pulling that word out in a bit of a drawl that the rest of his words settled into shortly after, "yes. And who might you be?"

She looked, if nothing else, like one of the more sensible folks here. Or at least one of the ones who dressed reasonably. That was reassuring.

And concerning. How did she know who he was?

Good thing he was approachable, because Miguel was approaching. Scowling, even if that scowl wasn't for Zack.

"This is Iris's fault, isn't it?"

"You're rooming with Nina," Lana said distractedly, looking at her own assignment.

Rosa didn't want to be here. Rosa didn't want to teach. But apparently, Rosa was teaching, and the last thing she wanted was to go through with it and then get to the end and be told by those bastards that worked out these convoluted assignments and requirements to tell her she failed on a technically, that technically being not participating in bullshit things like these picnics.

So she was there, arms crossed, looking as unapproachable as she could possibly manage. Like she was about to punch the first person who dared to say one word to her about it right in the stomach.

Having managed to nap some on the bus, Simon was feeling a little more rested and ready to take on the day!

He thought.

Nametag affixed, he began looking around for assigned 'big sibling'.

Zack blinked. And then blinked some more.

"Fault...? Iris?"

A pause. Ino. What had Ino done this time?

"Nell Ingram?" Lana looked around for whoever that was. At least these odd nametags were good for something.

Lana eyed the nametags bemusedly. Odd little sticky things. Still, she picked up hers and stuck it to her tunic, using a nearby pen to write her name in Aurebesh below the High Galactic version. There was no way anybody would find her if they couldn't read it.

Vette squinted at the writing for a moment more, and then looked back at Lana, giving her a brief little nod of acknowledgment.

"Hey... thanks."

...

"Oh, this is gonna be so good."
