Rory situated herself behind the desk and became deeply absorbed in a well-worn copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.

[*cries at LJ* So sorry for the delay, people. For some reason, LJ hates my OCD and kept eating my comments. Hence why there is no lunchtime in the library today, unless I manage to fix it somehow.]

"There are wallabies that grow hair hopping around," Rory explained.

"Huh. They must live in the preserve. I've heard there are all sorts of weird animals out there."

"Well, I was reading online about the Teal Deer. Apparently the Fandom preserve has one of the largest Teal Deer populations left in the wild in the world."

"Yeah, they're supposed to be, like, the size of spaniels or something. And teal. I think they're a subspecies of some miniature Indian deer I can't pronounce. You saw one? They're supposed to be really shy."

Rory shook her head. "I haven't, no. But I know there's supposed to be a way to draw them out, right?"

"Hang on..." Zero looked up the Teal Deer on the computer quickly. "'The Teal Deer, or Muntiacus muntjac aquamarinus, is commonly drawn out of hiding by long-winded speeches. The Teal Deer are inexplicably drawn to the speechgiver and will form semicircles around them, staring intently.' So we can draw 'em out by talkin' at them...oh, no, that's terrible!"

Angela joined Rory behind the counter. "H'lo," she called, then began thumbing through a paperback.

"Teal deer? What's that?"

Zero gave Angela a quick handwavey, la la la look upthread explanation of the plight of the Teal Deer in Fandom's preserve. "So you see, we have to do something. Have fundraiser rallies. Sell Teal Deer t-shirts. Or glitter flags. Teal Deer/Life?"

Angela looked upthread listened closely, looking serious. "Oh my god, the poor little things. Who goes around talking at animals?"

As if she hadn't spent part of her Thursday gossiping with Faithful.

She pushed her hair back. "We should make the brunch a fundraiser. Like, give us $2 to help buy the land, or something."
