Summer Games: Wednesday, The Park [morning]

"Good morning!" Anakin yelled into the megaphone from the small platform he had erected in the park. "Students, please listen for your names and find your partner or partners as your name is called: Sidon and Aloy; Jason and Rey; Bobby and Paris; Ahsoka and Uma; Theron and Peridot; Astrid and Norman; Tip, Sabine and Beaker."

Once the students were in place, Anakin held up a sheaf of paper in his hand. "Today, with the help of the proprietors in town, we're conducting a Scavenger Hunt. You have a very long list: You must find 15 of the items from that list and either take a picture or video of yourselves completing the tasks. Whoever completes their 15 in the shortest amount of time will win the coveted, terrifying, singing fish," he said, holding his hand out for it to fly to him. It was still shrieking Sabotage as it flew, but now it also rained confetti on anyone close enough to be in its flight path. As Anakin held it, it treated the entire group to holographic footage of Theron being chased by a Roomba.

You're welcome, Theron.

"Right," Anakin said slowly. "Someone come take this thing from me as quickly as possible. On your marks, get set, go."

The crowd's probably a little thinner this time because the shop owners were in their shops, but the Perk had sent people down with their latest drink creations.

Spoiler: The Gremlin Bite was very, very terrible. And green. And waaaay too sweet.

Steve didn't have a shop, but it was a nice day and he'd gotten used to ambling over to the park to see what ridiculousness was in store this week, so he had a breakfast sandwich (okay, three breakfast sandwiches) and an ill-advised Gremlin Bite frozen coffee whatever and was ready to cheer everyone on.

Well hello there, tall drink of reasonably normal-looking water.

"So, what do you think the odds are that any of these kids will end up with a concussion?"

This was normal small talk where Cristina was from.

"Well, that one kid with the bright hair is pretty accident prone," Steve mused. "So...60 percent, maybe?"

"Sixty percent," Cristina said with a nod. "That's no chainsaw-pumpkin-carving-contest, but I'll take it."

God, she felt just like an intern again. Trolling for trauma.

"Which kid with the bright hair? There are, like, four. Five if you count the one with the stripes."

Cristina had been planning to avoid Fandom's Events like the plague after getting involuntarily roped into the last one. But there was literally nothing to do on this island, and she didn't do not doing anything well when she wasn't, you know, actively traumatized. So she ended up in the park. At least they had coffee.

She took a sip and promptly spit it back into her cup. "Oh my god, what is this? Green glucola?" She shook her head and handed the cup back. "Give me real coffee. You people should be ashamed."

"A woman after my own heart." Miguel toasted her with his black coffee. "I have no idea what that green stuff is, apart from awful."

"And possibly actually toxic," Cristina said, investigating her replacement coffee suspiciously before taking a cautious sip. "Americans consume enough sugar as it is. That much sweetness should be reserved for diagnostic testing alone."

"The sugar, hell," Miguel answered with a snort. "The green alone shouldn't be used for anything else. It'd probably make a perfect diagnostic dye."

Aphra made sad archeologist noises as the fish flew from her hands to Anakin's.

And she didn't even have the chance to win it back.

And Rosa, feeling very glad to have swung around by the park in time to have witnessed that, made a snorting cop noise.

"Oh, man," she said, "that's a shame."

She very clearly did not think it was a shame at all.

Kanan was absolutely here. He was missing this spectator sport for nothing. Hell, he'd brought his dog along, because if there was anything that these students absolutely needed, it was further distraction on their way to go scavenge, naturally.

Stance was behaving himself, even, staying next to Kanan's side and prancing about a little, but not actually running off to tackle anyone unless Kanan gave him permission to.

. . . That dog had neon spots.

As far as Fandom was concerned, this was such a low-key thing it should have been a total non-issue, and yet somehow, in the face of Prince Jaws and Guy on Fire (and Girl With Stripes and Grave's Disease and all the other oddities gathering just in this park, even), the dog with neon spots could not be ignored.

"That dog looks like something I had on my first backpack."

OH A PERSON! Stance was looking at the new person, his tail wagging a mile a minute. Could he? Could he? Was he allowed?

Kanan put his hand on Stance's head. No jumping up until you knew it was okay, buddy.

"I'm told he's pretty unique," Kanan allowed. "He's one of those things you probably wouldn't find outside of a Fandom Island trip. Or, apparently, backpacks."

Or, of course, the reality Stance came from in the first place.

"He's a normal dog besides the way he looks, at least."

Kanan gave a little laugh as Stance went from prancing in place to hopping up onto his kind legs and whining.

"Oh, go on, you ladies' man," he said. "Say hi to Rey."

Yeah, that dog was off running for her like a rocket.

At this point, honestly, Astrid was looking forward to these things just to see how crazy they'd get. A bit of masochism on her part, perhaps, since she would also be participating, but she'd managed to get out unscathed so far, so she felt confident that she could keep up the trend.

Yeah, Rosa was here, scoping things out. It was sort of her job or something, she could argue, but that would indicate that she cared, and she didn't, so she was just there, looking for reasons to laugh at someone.

She would still probably blame it on the squirrels, though, if anyone asked.
