Summer Camp Wednesday [The Park]

Today's beautiful weather was made for sitting outside and doing craft projects, which was good, because that's what you were doing. A number of tables were set up around the park, each filled with macrame and micro macrame--which was a thing Anakin had learned this week-- supplies: cording of various colors, beads, crystals, and other bits of shiny things (though the supplies were getting depleted as the squirrels kept stealing them), and a few macrame patterns mostly for dresses and other clothing-like items.

Even more worryingly, there was a runway set out down the middle of the area, along with two chairs set aside for judges.

"Right!" Anakin said, yelling into his bullhorn again. "Today you will be working in teams under a one-hour time limit to create a piece of macrame fashionwear. It does not have to be very large--it's not going to be for any of you to wear. The dimensions are provided at your stations, and the models will be arriving shortly."

Anyone have a bad feeling about that? Good.

"This week's winners will win the highly coveted Billy the Bass singing fish--" he glanced around. "Where'd that kriffing thing get off to?" He raised his hand and the fish, propelled by its own power and shrieking Sabatoge flew in from...somewhere.

"...that was odd." He glared at the assembled crowd. "Please refrain from stealing the fish until after the winner is determined this week. Listen carefully for your name and then join your team. You will have an hour to learn how to macrame and then your models will arrive and parade down the catwalk. The winners will be determined by our fashion experts Sparkle and Brooke. Your teams are as follows:

And a giant glowing timer that Anakin had gotten from...somewhere... began ticking down the hour.

Arrive and Mingle

The bleachers are back for any non-participants to enjoy, and the Mooby Burger people have now been joined by the Thai restaurant and the pizza place all selling food out of rickshaws. Grab a snack! Make a friend!

It didn't ever take much to get Sidon excited, of course, so it shouldn't be surprising that he was excited even for what he'd decided was pretty much fancy fish nets for various purposes. However, arriving on the scene and maybe getting a bite to eat for energy, his excitement only increased as he took in the set-up and found himself curious and thrilled to discover exactly what this was leading up to. No boats in sight, so he figured he would even be able to participate in this one!

Well, technically, he could have participated last week, too, but, yes, they'd have needed quite the boat!

Pardon Cristina's staring, Sidon. No one else was, so she was doing her best not to make it obvious, but she was definitely staring out of the corner of her eye.

He was clearly wearing a costume or possibly was some sort of animatronic or something, but she couldn't figure out the purpose of him.

Oh, Sidon had gotten quite used to sideways glances like that, with all the travelling he'd done with the school, and he did what he always did when confronted with a new person's curious gaze: he smiled his brightest, sharpest, toothiest smile, and waved a hand high in the air.

"Hello, there!" he called out, not even remotely subtle. "Are you here to participate in the wonderful summer activities as well?"

This was....not a crime scene. It might be, if certain squirrels didn't watch themselves, but Rosa had very clearly been lead here on false pretenses by a bunch of excitable little rodents, who were scurrying away before that glare could turn into something more physical.

"You know it's against the law to make false statements about a crime, right?" she called out after them, but they were gone, for now, and even if they came back, she wouldn't be able to tell one from the other, probably, so there they were. She gave a dispirited look around, having that nausea rising up in her stomach that told her she was definitely going to be roped into this.

...roped.

Goddammit.

Seivarden noticed the squirrels, and didn't bother to hide a smirk. "Did they bribe you with rum?"

"It goes the other way around, you dingbat." And Rosa didn't bother to hide a scowl, rolling her eyes at Seivarden before returning her glare to the dispersing squirrels. "You're supposed to bribe them with rum. Or I guess tea in your case..."

She trailed off, shaking her head. "No, those rodents dragged me here under very false pretenses. Unless they meant to put out an asshole alert, since you're here, but that's still," she raised her voice to shout after them again, "not a crime."

"Besides," she added, "I'm a cop. I don't take bribes."

Not on the record, anyway.

Why yes, Sparkle had stuck around after last night's party, and today's festivities promised to be like a present to him, personally, even more.

He was dressed up nicely, and had done enough googling of macramé to throw together a necktie that was thematic, if absurd.

"So, I was at class last night and didn't get your invite until after I got home at one," Kathy said apologetically. "But happy birthday?"

She held out a pair of wrapped packages. One was traditionally bottle-shaped--Sparkle was twenty-one now, after all--and the other was, well, much smaller. Just big enough to hold a deck of cards.

She didn't know that the original Uno set had long ago been turned to ashes, but this one was different enough to suffice anyway.

"Hey, class happens," Sparkle said with all the authority of a guy who had actually taken one of those, once. He gave Kathy a little smile and a shrug of his shoulders. "Sorry you couldn't make it, but it isn't like I gave anyone any notice, either."

Ah, those same-day birthday invites. Useless, mostly, but he'd still scored a lot of last-minute birthday booze.

"... You really didn't have to, though," he added, even as he reached to take the gifts. Then he shot her a teasing little grin. "You know this isn't going to score you brownie points during the judging, right?"

Sabine didn't exactly mingle. But she did find a spot to watch from the bleachers until things started, so she could check out the competition.

Karina had stuck around after last night's party because, well, why not?

She'd found herself here out of morbid curiosity, more than anything, and took a seat on the bleachers, ready to be invariably amused at what people who weren't her had to go through.

... Yes, she was probably going to enjoy this more than she would've as a student here.

"Karina?" Kathy said, surprised to see the other girl. Surprised enough to momentarily forget to be awkward about being teamed up with Jono. "Hey! Wow, long time no see! How've you been? Here for Sparkle's party last night?"

Also surprised enough to wonder if Karina had gotten her long ago message and would be just as surprised to see Kathy alive as Kathy was to see her here.

But she remembered that message.

Karina was a Hero. She remembered it.

She was also totally smooth and, yes, that was a surprised yelp as Karina flailed up from her seat.

Brooke was wearing a pretty blue homemade sash that said "JUDGE" on it as she walked around before the competition, because she was just that kind of person.

There was one for Sparkle too if he wanted it. But for now she was showing off.

Kitty had suggested attending the Event today, and having literally nothing better to do (no matter how hard she tried to find something), Cristina was here.

"What is this, some kind of festival or something?"

At least there was food.

Tip grabbed herself some spring rolls from the Thai rickshaw and went to go scope the supplies. She'd watched some macrame youtubes over the week, and was feeling pretty confident.

At least Astrid's sunglasses actually did something today other than help her not react to things. She did cast a rueful glance to the sky, though, since she actually liked the colorful rain. Once glance at the set-up and supplies, though, and she realized she wouldn't be wanting for color.

This...could actually be kind of fun.

It was sure as hell a step up from Starburst wrapper bracelets, anyway.

Miguel grinned at her. "That is the worst idea. Why do you want a flying, screaming fish plaque?"

Note that he wasn't saying no.
