Today's beautiful weather was made for sitting outside and doing craft projects, which was good, because that's what you were doing. A number of tables were set up around the park, each filled with macrame and micro macrame--which was a thing Anakin had learned this week-- supplies: cording of various colors, beads, crystals, and other bits of shiny things (though the supplies were getting depleted as the squirrels kept stealing them), and a few macrame patterns mostly for dresses and other clothing-like items.

Even more worryingly, there was a runway set out down the middle of the area, along with two chairs set aside for judges.

"Right!" Anakin said, yelling into his bullhorn again. "Today you will be working in teams under a one-hour time limit to create a piece of macrame fashionwear. It does not have to be very large--it's not going to be for any of you to wear. The dimensions are provided at your stations, and the models will be arriving shortly."

Anyone have a bad feeling about that? Good.

"This week's winners will win the highly coveted Billy the Bass singing fish--" he glanced around. "Where'd that kriffing thing get off to?" He raised his hand and the fish, propelled by its own power and shrieking Sabatoge flew in from...somewhere.

"...that was odd." He glared at the assembled crowd. "Please refrain from stealing the fish until after the winner is determined this week. Listen carefully for your name and then join your team. You will have an hour to learn how to macrame and then your models will arrive and parade down the catwalk. The winners will be determined by our fashion experts Sparkle and Brooke. Your teams are as follows:

And a giant glowing timer that Anakin had gotten from...somewhere... began ticking down the hour.

Cristina actually huffed a small laugh -- "Isle of Ikea", that was a good one -- but then Sidon kept going, and her eyes kind of glazed over.

"I see," she said finally. "Good?"

She totally stopped listening when he started on his full recap.

"Oh, I hope so." Sidon spent his workdays doing nothing but babbling at creatures with their eyes naturally glazed over on account of them being fish, so he certainly didn't notice anything amiss and just thought Cristina was truly a wonderful listener. "I believe I should very much like to have that fish, even if only until next week, but that should be of no surprise to anyone!"

His laugh was bright and way too enthusiastic for a novelty piece of singing plastic, then mellowed slightly into his cheerful grin.

"Also," he said, "I don't believe we have met!" And how could he refuse an introduction?

"I am Sidon!" Yup, there it was, the fist bump across his chest, a smile that managed to catch the light just right to create a perfect sparkle. "The Zora prince! And who do I have the honor of meeting on this fine and beautiful Wednesday?"

He was like a cartoon character. An actual, animate, three dimensional cartoon character. Maybe this place was a theme park? That would explain a lot, but not why she couldn't leave. . . .

"Dr. Cristina Yang," she said. If he was going to claim to be a prince she was definitely using her full title. "The cardiothoracic surgeon."

"The cardiothoracic surgeon!" Sidon repeated, sounding absolutely delighted. "How marvelous! I've never met one of those before!"

Then, after the barest of pauses:

"...what does that mean?"

"If you don't know what it means, how do you know if you've ever met one before?" Cristina pointed out. "It means I fix people's hearts and lungs."

That was...actually a very good question.

"Are there many secret cardiothoracic surgeons?" Sidon wondered. "I really can't think of anyone else I know of that fixes people's hearts and lungs."

"Probably not," Cristina admitted. "Doctors like to brag."

"As they well should!" said Sidon with gusto. "They provide for others a very important and often life-saving service! One must be very proud and brave, strong of both will and body, clever and smart and dedicated to be a doctor!"

Of all the people Cristina might have thought would understand, it wasn't the giant, probably animatronic sharkman thing.

"Exactly." She nodded up at him. "Thank you. I'm glad to know there's someone around her who makes sense."

Even if that someone was a giant, probably animatronic sharkman thing.

Funny how just complimenting the crap out of people tended to have that effect.

"But of course!" Sidon beamed, bobbing his head in a slight bow. "Credit where credit is due! I am just honored to have met my very first...that I know of," he chuckled a little, "cardiothoracic surgeon, though I do say, I hope that I may never have to see your impressive skills in action. I don't suppose you know your way around Zora hearts and lungs, by chance, do you?"

"If by 'zora' you mean giant shark people -- no." Cristina shook her head. "You'd probably need an aquatic veterinarian."

Or a mechanic.

"I do mean giant shark people!" Sidon agreed with a laugh. "You are very smart. Of course, we don't call ourselves that, but that is easily the best equivalent to the Zora people in this particular world. Luckily, I work with a veterinarian who is quite versed in aquatic variants, so it's good to know I can depend on her should I ever need anything like that. There are significantly more human and human-like individuals on the island, though, so I imagine you'll get more work of that kind than she, though, and please don't take this the wrong way, I hope you don't get any, because that would mean someone was in trouble, and I'd rather not have that if at all possible."

"Right," Cristina said on a small sigh, not really sounding like she meant it. "That would be terrible."

Cristina got twitchy when she couldn't do surgery.

"Actually, I'm supposed to be moving to Switzerland," she said, not sure why she was bothering to confide this to Jaws over here. "So I probably won't be around long enough to fix anyone here, anyway."

"Oh, Switzerland!" Sidon gushed. "That's wonderful! That's..."

He realized he did not know what Switzerland was.

"Err, where is that, exactly? I don't believe I've heard of that one yet."

"Right, of course. You probably don't hear a lot about Europe when you're under the sea." Cristina could humor Prince Jaws the animatronic sharkman, sure. "Switzerland is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. They have great chocolate and refuse to fight in wars."
