Today's beautiful weather was made for sitting outside and doing craft projects, which was good, because that's what you were doing. A number of tables were set up around the park, each filled with macrame and micro macrame--which was a thing Anakin had learned this week-- supplies: cording of various colors, beads, crystals, and other bits of shiny things (though the supplies were getting depleted as the squirrels kept stealing them), and a few macrame patterns mostly for dresses and other clothing-like items.

Even more worryingly, there was a runway set out down the middle of the area, along with two chairs set aside for judges.

"Right!" Anakin said, yelling into his bullhorn again. "Today you will be working in teams under a one-hour time limit to create a piece of macrame fashionwear. It does not have to be very large--it's not going to be for any of you to wear. The dimensions are provided at your stations, and the models will be arriving shortly."

Anyone have a bad feeling about that? Good.

"This week's winners will win the highly coveted Billy the Bass singing fish--" he glanced around. "Where'd that kriffing thing get off to?" He raised his hand and the fish, propelled by its own power and shrieking Sabatoge flew in from...somewhere.

"...that was odd." He glared at the assembled crowd. "Please refrain from stealing the fish until after the winner is determined this week. Listen carefully for your name and then join your team. You will have an hour to learn how to macrame and then your models will arrive and parade down the catwalk. The winners will be determined by our fashion experts Sparkle and Brooke. Your teams are as follows:

And a giant glowing timer that Anakin had gotten from...somewhere... began ticking down the hour.

Karina had stuck around after last night's party because, well, why not?

She'd found herself here out of morbid curiosity, more than anything, and took a seat on the bleachers, ready to be invariably amused at what people who weren't her had to go through.

... Yes, she was probably going to enjoy this more than she would've as a student here.

Was that... Jono squinted a little, and then tilted his head a bit. And then perked up slightly.

//Karina? That you?//

It had been a while, okay? It wasn't every day an old Boards regular came back for a random Wednesday macrame fashion show.

"Last I checked it was," she said cheerfully. "Though knowing this place, I make no promises for it being me in the future."

//... Fair enough,// Jono allowed, though there was an obvious note of amusement in his voice. //Well, hello anyway, Karina-for-now. It's been a while.//

"Hey, yourself," she said, smiling. "Jono. You're still stuck here?"

Wow.

//Stuck-by-choice,// Jono offered, shrugging. //I head back to New York to teach now and again, but I've mostly settled in. It's... usually not terrible.//

He was a fixture here, Karina. Going nowhere any time soon.

That was sad. Karina was glad it wasn't her.

"I can't remember if I told you that you were weird before," she mused. "But I think you kind of are."

Jono kind of loved hearing that from someone who wasn't just talking about the fire, honestly.

//Oh, there's no doubt about that,// he replied easily. //I'm one of the strangest people I know.//

Around here, that was saying something. Back home it was saying even more.

Yeah, but the fire was an old and familiar weird.

"You say that like you're proud of yourself," she said, rather doubtfully.

//I prefer it to most of my other claims to fame,// Jono replied easily. //Weird because I choose to live somewhere is at least a weird I can control.//

He liked having control of his life. That was new and exciting.

"You know, put that way, I can get it," Karina said, smiling. "Still going to judge you for living here, but I can get it."

Karina was a total control freak over her ambitions.

//Hell,// Jono said, only half-joking, //I still judge myself for living here. But at least around here, people only try to smother me with their jacket once every few months or so.//

... He was maybe casting a sideways look toward Cristina.

"No," Karina said. "Someone actually did?"

//Just a few days ago,// Jono confirmed with a shrug. //She'd hardly be the first to try. After a while you just sort of accept that people's first reaction when they see fire all over a person is to get the fire to stop being all over the person.//

"Karina?" Kathy said, surprised to see the other girl. Surprised enough to momentarily forget to be awkward about being teamed up with Jono. "Hey! Wow, long time no see! How've you been? Here for Sparkle's party last night?"

Also surprised enough to wonder if Karina had gotten her long ago message and would be just as surprised to see Kathy alive as Kathy was to see her here.

Yeaaaah. Yeah, Karina had been out of the Kathy loop for a long, long time.

But she remembered that message.

Karina was a Hero. She remembered it.

She was also totally smooth and, yes, that was a surprised yelp as Karina flailed up from her seat.

"What? Kathy?! How?"

Kathy winced and offered Karina an awkward smile. "Magic?" she said, shrugging. "A friend of mine has something like wish-granting powers and another friend accidentally wished me alive again."

Probably should have gone with something like 'too cool to be down for long' but see: surprised. And Kathy wasn't good enough at lying to pull that one off anyway.

"It's been a almost a year and a half, but I've kinda kept quiet. 'I was a zombie and now I'm not' is a little hard to explain to people."

"I really, really, really hate this island," she said, still teetering between surprise and a complicated mix of emotions that were mostly glad.

If disbelieving.

"But I might love it a bit for your sake," Karina said, not sure if she was, what, supposed to go in for a hug. Or just stand there awkwardly. Or something. Shit, Karina was bad at the feelings things. "But look at you! You look great!"

Kathy was going for 'stand there awkwardly.' Sometimes people could be...weird...about the whole 'back from the dead' thing. "Thanks," she said, ducking her head. "The first half-year or so was really hard, readjusting to, well, everything."

And facing the people she'd left behind.

"But I've kinda gotten back into the swing of things. I'm almost a certified EMT, ended up randomly owning a store, have a pair of great boyfriends..." She shrugged. "The island's a pain in the ass, but it's been pretty good to me."
