How To Shoot Straight, Monday

"Right," Atton said.

They were standing in a classroom. A regular, nice, simple classroom that wasn't going to turn into something weird on Atton unexpectedly. "Welcome to How To Shoot Straight. We learn how to shoot things here. That's it. No weird philosophical angle or anything."

He waved at the table in front of him, which supported an impressive arsenal of... nerf guns.

"Today, I want to know how much you people know about aiming," he said. "Give me your name and a drawing of someone you'd like to shoot in the face. Then shoot them in the face. There, that's your assignment, go."

This isn't rocket science. Give Atton your name, put your target up on the wall, take ten steps back and try to hit it as well as you can with the nerf gun.

Art had never been Ahsoka's thing, but her drawing was at least vaguely recognisable as Chancellor Palpatine.

"I'm Ahsoka, which you probably know by now." She'd been in enough of his classes.

"Yep," Atton drawled. "Good to see you back again, go shoot that... wrinkly... whatever that is."

"Sith."

What? She figured that if any of her teachers (who weren't Anakin) were going to approve of shooting Sith in the face...

Boy, did he have a rant about the complexities of Sith-dom for her!

... Or not. Probably not. Atton shrugged. "Works well enough for me," he said. "The guy's got the wrinkles down."

Well, Sion and Nihilus hadn't had wrinkles, but Kreia had...

Mara was giving your picture some serious side-eye, Ahsoka.

Ahsoka smiled sweetly at Mara (with far too many teeth) and shot a nerf dart right between her drawing's eyes.

Rex had taught her to shoot. Even if she didn't have the Force she'd have good aim.

Mara rolled her eyes. "I can do that too."

Alluka had struggled with the idea of... not of shooting someone, in general, since that didn't seem hard, but of shooting someone in particular, since she wasn't really sure there was anyone like that.

Eventually, she'd drawn a circle, big and red, and given it wings, so that it was sort of pretty, and considered that good enough.

"I'm Alluka Zoldyck," she said, when it was her turn.

"Hey, Alluka," Atton greeted her lightly. "What've you got for me?"

She hesitated, wondering if he meant was she supposed to shoot, or if he was asking about the picture.

"Not a lot," she said, since it was the truth. "I didn't know who to draw, and I've never done this before."

Kaylin could draw about as well as she could be trusted to interact politely with important people - which was to say pretty much not at all. Still she had a randomly face shaped thing with some sort of... antenna?

"It's a Tha'alani," Kaylin said and turned her head to the side to spit.

"Oh. Sorry."

Mara's target was vaguely Darth Vader shaped if you squinted, but she figured it was better than writing "Rebels" on it and having Ahsoka jump her or something.

She took ten steps back, smiled at Atton, and said, "I'm still Mara."

"Hello, still Mara," Atton said. He gestured at her picture. "Shoot the... creepy mask thing. What is that, a Mandalorian?"

"Something like that," Mara agreed, nodding.

FN-2187's target was pretty unrecognizably vague. Look, he didn't have much in the way of artistic skills and he didn't really want to shoot anyone in the face unless they really deserved it. He figured if someone asked he'd say it was a smuggler or something, that seemed like a sound answer that wouldn't get him in trouble.

Except that other girl had apparently drawn the emperor and now he was afraid they were all going to be reported and murdered.

"I'm FN-2187," he said.

"Hey, FN-- I'm not going to use the rest of that, you're not a droid," Atton said.

He squinted at the target. Couldn't make much of it. Oh well. "Go shoot your... whatever that is."

"Hey. I'm Tali," she said with the familiar shrug of someone who'd been in a few of his classes already.

Her drawing appeared to be a very large cuttlefish. It wasn't a very good cuttlefish, granted.

"Tali," Atton greeted with a tilt of his head. "Take it that's some kind of species from where you're from?"

"More or less," Tali allowed. "If a fleet of dreadnoughts was sentient and interested in -- well, harvesting all the organic life in the galaxy, anyway."

She loaded the Nerf gun with a bit of a flourish.

"So you could say this is probably my only chance to shoot one in the face."

Ringo didn't really want to shoot anyone with a real gun, but a Nerf gun? That was probably okay. So she drew a picture of Dante.

Which was utterly unrecognizable unless you knew precisely one human with short, brown hair and it happened to be him.

She held out her drawing toward Atton. "My name is Ringo Noyamano." She offered him a polite little bow. "And I've, um, never shot anything before." Unless Regalia-compressed air counted, which in her mind it totally didn't.

Hey, there was a reason this week was Nerf Gun class. They'd do the real shooting on real targets.

"Hi, Ringo," Atton said, snagging her target. He walked over to put it up on the wall. "Let's see how bad you are at this, then."

Ringo nodded and sort of steeled herself. She pointed the gun in the general direction of the target and tensed up before pulling the trigger.

Except she'd forgotten to actually cock the gun, so it didn't fire.

After a couple of seconds of messing with it, she got that figured out, and tried again. She was practically wincing in anticipation when she pulled the trigger and sent the dart sailing right into the wall a foot or two from the target.
