How To Shoot Straight, Monday

"Right," Atton said.

They were standing in a classroom. A regular, nice, simple classroom that wasn't going to turn into something weird on Atton unexpectedly. "Welcome to How To Shoot Straight. We learn how to shoot things here. That's it. No weird philosophical angle or anything."

He waved at the table in front of him, which supported an impressive arsenal of... nerf guns.

"Today, I want to know how much you people know about aiming," he said. "Give me your name and a drawing of someone you'd like to shoot in the face. Then shoot them in the face. There, that's your assignment, go."

Go 'okay, then!'. And work on your drawing of your least-favorite person.

This isn't rocket science. Give Atton your name, put your target up on the wall, take ten steps back and try to hit it as well as you can with the nerf gun.

Ahsoka Tano

Art had never been Ahsoka's thing, but her drawing was at least vaguely recognisable as Chancellor Palpatine.

"I'm Ahsoka, which you probably know by now." She'd been in enough of his classes.

"Yep," Atton drawled. "Good to see you back again, go shoot that... wrinkly... whatever that is."

"Sith."

What? She figured that if any of her teachers (who weren't Anakin) were going to approve of shooting Sith in the face...

Alluka Zoldyck

Boy, did he have a rant about the complexities of Sith-dom for her!

... Or not. Probably not. Atton shrugged. "Works well enough for me," he said. "The guy's got the wrinkles down."

Well, Sion and Nihilus hadn't had wrinkles, but Kreia had...

Alluka had struggled with the idea of... not of shooting someone, in general, since that didn't seem hard, but of shooting someone in particular, since she wasn't really sure there was anyone like that.

Eventually, she'd drawn a circle, big and red, and given it wings, so that it was sort of pretty, and considered that good enough.

"I'm Alluka Zoldyck," she said, when it was her turn.

Kaylin Neya

Kaylin could draw about as well as she could be trusted to interact politely with important people - which was to say pretty much not at all. Still she had a randomly face shaped thing with some sort of... antenna?

"I'm Kaylin Neya."

"Hey, Alluka," Atton greeted her lightly. "What've you got for me?"

"Hey," Atton said. He nodded at the paper. "What's that? Some kind of Kibnon or something?"

She hesitated, wondering if he meant was she supposed to shoot, or if he was asking about the picture.

"Not a lot," she said, since it was the truth. "I didn't know who to draw, and I've never done this before."

"Nobody you're angry at?" Atton said. "Huh. That's new."

The kids were all teenagers, after all.

She blinked at him, confused.

"Is, is that bad?"

"It's a Tha'alani," Kaylin said and turned her head to the side to spit.

"Oh. Sorry."

"Nah, just unusual, I guess," Atton said, scratching at the back of his head. "Okay, go shoot your made-up person."

"No, it's fine, I'm used to it," Atton said, waving it off.

Admittedly not from humans, but hey, it took all kinds. "Take it you're not a fan. Good."

"Not even close to one. They stick those things on your forehead and pull all your... everythings out of your brain. And you can't stop them."

She spit on the floor again since he hadn't minded the first time.

"I hate them."

Alluka was still confused. She didn't see how being not-angry at anyone was unusual or why he'd want them to shoot at people they were angry at in the first place.

Wouldn't that be a bad way to learn? Whenever she got upset, back when she'd first started with her ATs, Ringo had waited until she'd calmed down before going over the basics again.

But Alluka didn't know him, so she just gave him an another look, but no, he still didn't make sense. She didn't have the heart to tell him her picture wasn't even a person.

She fiddled with her nerf gun for a moment, then took the steps back she was supposed to take, and took aim and fired.

It was a nerf gun, which wasn't ever going to be the best and most precise thing ever, but Alluka had very good hand-eye coordination to go along with her ridiculously good balance, so she hit the target. Then again. And again. Not dead center, and sometimes barely touching where she'd drawn, but every time she hit the paper.

There was a whole thing involved about teenagers and hormones and catharsis, but Atton hadn't been lying when he'd said up front he didn't want to deal with any philosophical angles.

And she hadn't asked, anyway.

"Nice," he said approvingly. "Not your first time shooting something?"
