Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Gosh, the summer picnic was so much nicer--and warmer--than the spring one. There were tables and chairs set up in the sun and the shade, and more than enough food for everyone. Hopefully, everyone was up for socializing for a while!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Like a month ago, Dante'd had these magnificent plans of pulling an Ezra or a Face and going shirtless at this particular newbie picnic. Instead, he was sitting in the shadow of a tree, legs outstretched, with a pounding headache.

He was only here for the free food.

And yeah, he was drinking water. Fucking Ada. (He thought, with hungover love.)

"You look like shit, sweet thing," Isabela said, seating herself next to him.

She'd brought over two plates worth of pizza though and offered him the fuller one.

Dante took the plate gladly. "Nice seeing you too," he said. "'Bad boy people want to bang' shit or 'Go home, you're not getting laid' shit?"

It was an important question.

"The latter," she told him. "Lucky for you, I can stick around and see if the former makes a comeback."

And this was why Dante lovingly referred to Isabela as his sex soulmate. She got him! And his unhealthy coping methods!

(For some measure of 'got' that translated to 'enabling', anyway.)

He pulled a face, then shoved some of the pizza in it. After swallowing, he said, "You're making a great case for the former. Gotta get my game back up."

Was it really enabling when Isabela's were just as unhealthy?

"How else are we supposed to properly scope out the new kids?" Because that was totally the only reason she was providing him with food and encouragement. Yes. That.

"There's a couple of hot ones and a couple of weird ones," Dante mused. "And I think I spotted one that's kind of in the middle?"

"I'm supposed show the little green one how things work around here. I don't think she was expecting to be here any more than I was last year."

"I'd be really surprised if even half of them knew they were supposed to be here," Dante said, shrugging. "That just seems to be how this place works."

"Hi," Alluka said, sitting by him without asking for an invitation. He looked like he needed a nap. Or a friend. She wasn't sure if she was a friend but thought that maybe she should act like one since Kathy would've, for him.

But she didn't really know what to say at the same time?

So... she just left it at the 'hi' and hugged her elephant as she watched everyone else.

Funny how she and Ringo had both decided to try to follow in Kathy's footsteps on this one - when all Dante wanted to do was go with last week's train of thought and put it all behind him.

Not that he could glean her reasoning from that 'hi', though, so he had no problem sticking with it for now.

"Hey, Alluka," he said. "Out here people watching too?"

Probably not for the same 'scoping out the new hot people' reasons as him.

She probably wasn't even going to tell him, since she wasn't really sure of it herself. What Kathy would do for Dante was probably nothing like what Alluka could do.

But she could sit by him at a picnic. It was kind of reassuring, since Alluka knew him and she didn't know a lot of people, and they still tended to overwhelm her a bit.

She smiled at him. "Uh huh. I was over there," she pointed to the food tables, "but, but I wanted to sit for a while and everyone's so neat to look at. No one looks the same."

That was fine. Dante really didn't want whatever Kathy would do anyway.

"Yeah, we've got some interesting people this time, don't we?" he said. "Like that walking Mountain Dew commercial over there."

He nodded towards Peridot.

Alluka actually understood that comment, which pleased her. She glanced over at where he nodded and giggled.

"Maybe she just likes the green?" Alluka said, since she didn't want to be mean about the new... person. "It's a lot of green though."

A lot, a lot.

"There's having a theme," like Dante's intense love for black and red, "and then there's that."

He leaned back on his elbows. "I'd say she looks like she wants to hide in the bushes, but it's the wrong kind of green for that."

"It's not even all the same green," Alluka mused. "Do... do you think she just comes in green? Like, some of my toys are funny colours all the time."

"Maybe?" Dante offered. He grinned - not as big as usual, but still - and added, "Poor thing. It is not easy being green."

"What happened?" Ringo asked as she walked over to him, unable to keep the concern out of her voice even though she knew Dante wouldn't welcome it. Maybe especially not from her.

"You okay?" Because he didn't look okay.

Dante rolled his eyes. "Just a hangover," he said. And a week in demon prison, but was he going to mention that? No. "Don't get all sentimental."

Yes, you, Ringo. Queen of Sentimentality.

"Must have been some bender," she allowed, looking him up and down.

Not that she had much in the way of experience with hangovers herself.

"It was a good one," Dante said, shrugging. He picked up a now-cold piece of pizza from the plate Isabela had brought him. "Only problem is I'm not keeping it up now."

She was even still (sort of) talking about benders, too!

He didn't roll his eyes this time, but the way he was looking at her basically communicated the idea anyway.

... and no, he didn't need to stop and recover. That'd be a waste of whatever time he had left.

Ringo folded her legs and flopped down next to him. "How're you doing?" You know, really?

"Getting over a hangover and looking forward to making some new friends," Dante said, stretching his legs out.

He was done talking about his feelings.

(Because he'd done so much of that already!)
