Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2016, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

Right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, the ceremony for graduation was ready to go. The lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, which reflected nicely off of the glitter scattered throughout the lawn.

Look, this was one of the last chances to get the students covered in glitter. They might miss Fandom too much without this annoyingly sparkly reminder!

There were chairs set up for all of the graduates, and plenty of seats for guests to come and watch. Hopefully, Fandom's current floaty conditions wouldn't weird anyone out, and as for anything else that might happen during the ceremony... well, the administration was hoping that Fandom had had enough weirdness for a little while, and things would go off without a hitch.

Congratulations, Class of 2016! Today is your day!

Dante hadn't even really wanted to come, if he was blisteringly honest with himself. But he wanted to at least see Alana do her thing and get her diploma, so he settled in shortly before everything started. He stretched out in his seat and eyed Zoe.

This was certainly a ceremony.

Cassandra sank down in a seat, back straight up, and kept her eye out for Garik.

Jono hadn't actually taught many of the students who were graduating today. But he had fought alongside a couple who weren't going to be here at all. He figured, at the very least, that he owed it to them to attend the ceremony, even if they couldn't.

Ignore the somewhat somber air about him today. He was certainly trying to.

May kept throwing glances at the sky to make sure she wasn't losing it. But she hadn't made it through absolutely everything she had made it through to get to this point and freak out about being on an island in space. This was Gwen's day.

She just wasn't likely to put too many pictures on Facebook.

Eliot was not going to miss this ceremony, even if it was rather somber for him this year. He grabbed a seat near the back so that those with students actually present to celebrate would have plenty of room up front.

Anders wasn't exactly happy to be here but not much made him happy these days. He bit at his nails as he waited for the ceremony to begin.

Didi liked graduations; she liked ceremonies of all kinds, really. So she'd be at this one even though the floatiness (among other things) was a little disconcerting even for her.

Hannibal wasn't going to miss a ceremony. He was, however, going to sit towards the back. Not so much to give family a chance to sit closer, but because he'd rather be watching any fighting than dealing with it.

Mara found a seat for herself with a good view of the graduates. She had packed a very obnoxious "GO EGGSY" sign.

Cosette . . . was not planning to throw glitter on people.

Intending to do it with no active strategy in mind didn't count as planning, right?

She was taking a few minutes before the ceremony began to look up at the sky, though. And text her father (again) so he wouldn't have too much of a crisis over the island not being at the other end of the causeway.

Jaina was mainly here as an excuse to check in on Fandom and how they were doing after last weekend. She'd be here for a day, then head back tomorrow.

Plus she was always curious about what would happen at the ceremony. It was always a party.

At the appropriate moment, there was Pomp and Circumstance. It was time for the soon-to-be-graduates to make the last adjustments to their blue and gold robes, and get to walking to their seats.

Edward felt-- elated was the correct term for it, he supposed. Though he was in no hurry to leave the island, there was a certain sense of accomplishment that came with this.

He grinned.

At this point Gwen was happy just to survive till graduation. Which, granted, would have been a thing if she'd stayed at Midtown, too.

But hey, today didn't suck so far.

Alana kept fussing with her cap as she waited for the music to start. She had expected to be excited to graduate, and she was -- somewhere under layers of nerves about her speech, relief her dad and Evan had decided to skip the ceremony, and anxiety about what was to come at the end of the summer.

She took a steadying breath and glanced up at Four. "You ready to do this?"

Once the speeches were over, Zoe came back up to the podium, and called each graduate's name to give them their diploma. Or, in some cases, to give someone else their diploma.
