Parker is hungover, unhappy, and really not glad to be back from break.

The Library is open.

After class, Peter walked into the library, still all bruisinated, really hoping for some good news today. He didn't see Zero anywhere, but it couldn't hurt to ask if she was around.

Oh, wait, Parker was there. It probably could hurt. "Good morning," he said as cheerfully as he could.

"Hey, Peter," Angela said. "What's up?" She took in his injuries. "Are you okay?"

Peter shrugged at the question. "Just had a midterm in Sociology of Violence. I thought I'd replace my essay with something more practical." And then, not even pausing to make a proper segue, he asked, "Is Zero around?"

Angela raised her eyebrows. "Zero's, um ... not exactly back from break yet," she said, then sucked in her breath. "She'skindofinjailinScotland. With her parents."

There were no words. Okay, maybe a few words. "Well, it's nice that she's spending time with her family, at least."

"That's what I said," Angela shrugged. "Parker knows more than I do. I think she thinks she'll be back tomorrow or Wednesday, though."

She wasn't smirking at Peter's ~~omgsocute~~ interest in Zero. Really.

Peter shrugged again. "I really don't want to know how she expects to get out of a foreign prison so quickly. And, hey, plus side is that the bruising will be down a little by then right? Oh, and please stop smirking."

"Well, her dad's English, so she's, like, half a citizen?" Angela guessed. "I think they only have to make bail. But ask Parker, she's the one who got the message."

"And I am not smirking. I had, um, a cramp in my lip."

"I've been beaten up, my room is pink, and Zero's in jail across the ocean. Please just call it a smirk, say 'I just think it's cute' or whatever, and stop it before the desk has a Peter-shaped dent in it," Peter whined.

Angela stared at Peter for a second. "I just think it's cute. Sorry. Please don't wreck the desk, or whatever."

Peter sighed, annoyed with himself. "I'm sorry. It's been a rough 48 hours but I really didn't mean to snap at you."

"Unless you painted my room pink. Then you'd have to face my full wrath."

Angela shook her head. "Nope. I have an alibi, even, I think -- I was in England until Wednesday, and back home in Pittsburgh Thursday and Friday nights. Do you know when they did it?"

"But I'm sorry you're stuck with a pink room,. Mine got trashed while I was home. Maybe somebody got really bored over break."

"All I know is that it was sometime between Wednesday afternoon and last night," Peter said, shaking his head.

"Sorry to hear about your room, though. People need to find more constructive ways to pass the time."

"Mmmmmph. Is it?" Parker looked subdued, then a tiny, tiny bit amused by something. "How's it going, Petey boy?"

After Angela told him about Zero's incarceration, Peter's mood was about as pleasant as his face at the moment. "Perfectly fine. Really. If the past few days were a person, I'd buy it a cake."

"Ah." Parker tilted her head very carefully. "I'm having that day too. Sucks, doesn't it?" She yawned, then opened her cellphone. To share or not to share. To share, or not to share.... Zero might kill her, but Petey boy looked really pathetic.

"Please don't. The past couple days have been bad enough," he said, pointing at the still clear burn on his cheek.

"So, how did she end up in prison? Angela said you would know."

Parker abandoned all considerations of torment, and shook her head. "You really shouldn't worry. Her parents have been arrested for a lot worse. In worse countries. I think it's their hobby. CNN said it was a demonstration that got out of hand, is all." She cocked an eyebrow. "Want to hear the message she left me?"

"I would really appreciate that," Peter said.

Parker cocked an eyebrow at him, then opened up her voicemail, and the message she'd saved. Zero's semi-British voice came out of her phone:

"Hey, Parker, um, I don' know if you've turned on MTV News or, um, CNN lately, but I'm gonna be a bit late back to campus. Nothin' major, just a demonstration gone a touch awry, but um. Yeah. Da used his call to call a lawyer an' Mum called Rat for bail, so I figured I'd best let y'know I might not be about Monday, an'...I couldn't remember the office phone number. So if you could just tell Pete--er, people I'm fine, don't worry, just a touch...detained, that'd be swerval. Thanks. Bye."

No, she's not smirking. Her head hurts too much. It's kind of a demi-smirk.

Well, hearing that message was one good thing today. Good enough that he wasn't going to yell at Parker for the slight smirk. "Thanks," Peter said. "You have no clue how much that helped."

"Sure." Parker shrugged, then winced. "Maybe you can catch them on MTV News later. I mean, for Zero? This is nothing. She's been banned from Turkey since before she was born for something her parents did. And she snuck into Stonehenge with Rory and I while we were in England. She'll be fine, really." She looked thoughtful. "If you want to help me break into her room, though, I need to check on her bird later."

"Sorry. Room breakage is kind of out of the question for a few reasons," Peter said. And they were practical reasons, too. He had to admit that he wouldn't mind checking out her room.

Parker cocked her head at him. "Should I ask what happened, or assume that someone in spandex got lucky in a punching way this weekend?"

"It begins with the fact that I - the costumed I - am dead, officially, took a detour with a fight on the way to the airport - leather guy, not spandex - and ended with me in a military hospital getting my powers removed," Peter said. "If you want details, it'll have to wait, though."
