Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Somewhere, in a tucked-away corner of the park, hidden from view, a portal appeared.

It did not remain long: just long enough to spit out a harried-looking Cassandra in full armor. She stumbled, but did not fall; once she had righted herself, she reached up and took off the helmet.

Well. At least this had worked.

Dipper had been on the lookout for odd occurrences so when a portal and a person in armor appeared? He was already rushing over to take notes.

"Dude! That was awesome!" He exclaimed. "Where did you just come from?"

Leave it to Dipper to be more excited about a girl coming through a portal in armor than girls lying around in swimsuits.

Cassandra looked up. She let out a disgusted sigh.

"Orlais," she said flatly. "This is Fandom, I hope?"

Dipper was immediately scribbling out "Orlais" as best as he could spell it. "Yep. This is Fandom. What was that cool portal thing? Was it A portalocity portal or just your average day run of the mill average portal?"

"It is a product of dangerous magics," Cassandra said. She was not happy about having to make use of it. "I would suggest you stay far away from it. I have made use of it simply out of necessity."

Since she couldn't leave a mage like Anders wandering around unsupervised.

"Ooooo. How dangerous are we talking? Lethal? Dimension shattering? Epic Cataclysm?"

Dipper was a little too excited and cheerful for such a topic.

Cassandra shot him a very dry look. "Those who can use magic are susceptible to possession by demons," she said, "And that is without going into the consequences of such disciplines as blood magic."

"Oh. Right. Blood magic. Right. Right. Very bad," Dipper said knowledgeably.

He has no knowledge of blood magic whatsoever.

"Are there demon possessed people here? That's the second time someone brought up demons today."

"I have yet to find any," Cassandra said. "However, there are several mages here, at least one of which hails from my world. That is why I returned."

"Cassandra?" You escaped! WHY WERE YOU BACK?

On purpose this time.

Cassandra turned to him, helmet under her arm. "Thorin," she said. "I see you still remain."

Excuse Thorin for a moment, he wasn't checking you out, he was zoning out on the armor. The pretty, pretty armor.

"Aye. The way home for me seems to be firmly shut."

Oh, dwarves.

"Still?" Cassandra said. "There are mages in my world who appear to know a path between these realms. Perhaps there are similar for your own."

ONCE HE WAS SECURE IN THE FACT THAT HE COULD DO BETTER THAN THAT, HE COULD MOVE ON.

"There are very few 'mages' where I am from. I know of only two."

Poor, neglected Radagast.

"You are lucky, then," Cassandra observed. "Though I suppose it is inconvenient under the current circumstances."

She miiiiight rethink that if she knew that they were essentially angels in the form of man with the purpose of guiding the peoples of Middle Earth toward a time without the Great Adversary.

But. You know. Cultural differences.

"I have continued to try returning," he replied. "More so after you succeeded."

"It appears the island may have a will of its own," Cassandra observed. "It may let you through when it decides the time is right."

"Oh good. You're back."

Anders meant to sound sarcastic, he really did, but there was some sincerity lurking in his words.

"Orlais is still in one piece?"

"It is still Orlais," Cassandra said mildly. "Mage. I could ask you the same of this island."

"It is still Fandom," Anders said, mimicking Cassandra's tone. "So I suppose we're even."

Cassandra let out a soft snort.

"I will remain here until I find a way for both of us to return to Orlais," she said. He hadn't asked, but she wanted to be specific. "They have been looking for you."

They just hadn't believed her stories about the island.

Anders screwed up his face. "Drat. I hoped they'd given up and decided I got killed by highwaymen or eaten by a decided a dragon by now. But you came back alone?"

"They find the island... implausible."

That was putting it very mildly, for Cassandra's standards.

"It is implausible," Anders said, shrugging. "I think that's part of its charm."

He gestured vaguely with one hand, curious about her mild response. "But so they don't think it exists, they don't think I'm really here, or both?"

"They do not believe it exists. Rather, they suspect you, or some cabal of mages that took you from the tower originally, may have taken me prisoner for some time," Cassandra said dryly. "No amount of insistence on your incompetence as a mage could change their minds."
