Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It is still Fandom," Anders said, mimicking Cassandra's tone. "So I suppose we're even."

Cassandra let out a soft snort.

"I will remain here until I find a way for both of us to return to Orlais," she said. He hadn't asked, but she wanted to be specific. "They have been looking for you."

They just hadn't believed her stories about the island.

Anders screwed up his face. "Drat. I hoped they'd given up and decided I got killed by highwaymen or eaten by a decided a dragon by now. But you came back alone?"

"They find the island... implausible."

That was putting it very mildly, for Cassandra's standards.

"It is implausible," Anders said, shrugging. "I think that's part of its charm."

He gestured vaguely with one hand, curious about her mild response. "But so they don't think it exists, they don't think I'm really here, or both?"

"They do not believe it exists. Rather, they suspect you, or some cabal of mages that took you from the tower originally, may have taken me prisoner for some time," Cassandra said dryly. "No amount of insistence on your incompetence as a mage could change their minds."

"... right," Anders said slowly. "Yes. I suppose that an evil cabal of mages is easier to believe than that our world isn't the only one, and my magic isn't the only kind."

He sighed. "But how'd you make it back? Face said you had important Seeker things to do."

"I am now a full Seeker," Cassandra agreed, "Which means I am well-equipped to keep an eye on you. As for how, that is not information I will share with you."

Lest Anders escape again when she finally managed to wrangle him back home.

Anders rolled his eyes elaborately.

"All right. Sorry I asked."

"You did not genuinely believe I would give you the tools to escape again?" Cassandra asked him.

"It was a social question, not an inquisition," Anders responded, with another eyeroll. (Someday his face was going to get stuck that way.) "I was surprised the Seekers let you go. Anyhow, this was my third or fourth time running away already, depending on how you count. I wasn't asking because I needed tactical assistance."

"They did not 'let' me go," Cassandra said, after a short pause. "I left."

Because she had disagreed about their judgment on the Anders situation.

"You left?" Anders repeated, sputtering a bit. "So you're a runaway too, now?"

Of all the things he could have imagined ... that wasn't among them.

"I am not a 'runaway'," Cassandra said flatly. "I disagreed with the Lord Seeker's assessment. Returning you to the Circle will prevent an unnecessary witch hunt. I am simply acting in my best judgment as a Seeker of Truth."

"Which happens to let you spend more time with me," Anders said, batting his lashes. "I didn't know you cared."

He still wasn't sure he followed the entire story, but he wasn't sure he needed to. He was here, so was Cassandra, and it seemed as though nothing much had changed. Falling back on humor made as much sense as anything.
