Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone might have been getting ready for the fall semester, but it was definitely still summertime in Fandom. The temperature was high, the wind was low, and it was only going to get hotter once everyone arrived.

There were chairs and tables set out around the lawn, some in shady spots and some out in the sun, and there was a long table of ~~moddable~~ food culminating in a table full of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet choices. There were also stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Raven was sure to end up topless for "tradition"'s sake by the end of the picnic, but she didn't want to scare off her latest little sib too quickly. So for the time being she was mimicking a perfectly classy blue and white number, complete with mimicked name tag to make her easier to recognize if her new sib spotted her first.

"Just to lay out a ground rule, I will not stand for any noogies. They're disrespectful and could cause me to spill my drink," Frank said right after spotting Raven's nametag. "If you can agree to that, then I'm Frank, your little sibling."

And yes he was holding a drink. That should be a given by now.

This was going to be very interesting. "Good to know," Raven said. "But who would you be if I didn't agree to it?"

"I'd be that guy over there who won't let you have a drink," Frank explained. "I'd still be named Frank, but you'd be in no position to know that."

"Well then, I'll happily accept your terms," Raven said. "Honestly, I've only ever been a little sister before, so I wouldn't know how to give a proper noogie, anyway."

"And I hope you never learn!" Frank said, carefully pulling a bottle and a glass from his big, clanking bag of liquor. "And to toast that hope, have a drink. Or refuse it and it'll be more for me. I'm okay with your decision either way."

. . . His bag was clanking. This was new.

"I'd love a drink," she said, mostly to be polite as it was -- well, she wasn't sure of the precise time, but it definitely seemed early for drinking. "I see you've come prepared."

For what, she wasn't sure.

Early for drinking? Nonsense!

Frank poured and handed the glass to Raven before refilling his own which had become suspiciously empty. "If there are four things said about me, I expect that 'comes prepared' is likely one of them, and you just proved that to be true."

Raven took a sip of her drink and had to smother a cough.

And Kathy thought she made her cocktails too strong.

"What would the other three be?"

"Drinks like a pro, good to have around in case of the supernatural, and something I won't share in polite company and you haven't proven yourself to be rude enough just yet," Frank said, .

"Well then, something to work on," Raven decided. "So you're familiar with the supernatural, then."

That was always a plus, around here, though often not nearly as fun to watch get to know Fandom.

"So familiar that it's essentially natural," Frank said. "Fandom is a hotbed I'd imagin? It has all the trappings. Tiny town. Giant castle. People named 'Raven.'"

"I'd be offended, but it's true. I'm a shapeshifter, in fact."

"Oh, really? What kind?" Frank asked, slightly interested in somebody beyond a basic politeness to generate white noise while he drank. "Demonic? Lycanthropic? Some other kind of ic, perhaps?"

"Mutant," Raven said. "But don't think that stopped folks back home from trying to chase me down as a demon a time or two."

Those wacky townspeople and their wacky pitchforks.

"Huh. I'm actually completely unfamiliar with mutants, but based on that past couple minutes, I'd say you're at least okay," Frank reasoned.

"I appreciate that," Raven said. "There are a few of us on the island. And a few werewolves and -foxes, though they can only change into one shape, so I tend to forget to count them as shifters."

"There aren't by any chance any calacas, are there?" Frank asked.

"I've never heard of that," Raven said. "Though I suppose if they're a shifter they might be closeted."

"It's an Egyptian skeleton creature that dances its victims to death and I'd appreciate it if we never talk about them again," Frank said.

"Then no, I don't think we've got any of those. There are ghosts and some vampires, though. And aliens. And a talking pony."

"I suppose now would be the time to admit that I have been something of a monster hunter in the recent past, with a specialty in the punching of ghosts," Frank said, having a general sense of the temperature of the figurative room. "But I tried to make sure they were malevolent, and furthermore I'm far more interested in being drunk than mucking about with any of that any more."

"Then I think you'll probably get along fine," Raven said. "And we do get the occasional malevolence coming through, so you'll have the opportunity for more punching too, if you decide you miss it."

"I will if I have to, or if it in any way prevents the supply of alcohol from reaching the island," Frank said, although you probably could have guessed that part.

"You really are quite fond of your booze, aren't you," Raven noted. "Any particular preferences? So I know what to get you on birthdays and holidays."
