Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Clarke still wasn't entirely sure she hadn't hit her head but there was less confusion on her face now and more fascination. Even before she landed on Earth she hadn't been used to seeing this sort of thing. It was weird seeing a group of people enjoying the outdoors instead of trying to fortify their camp.

And the food. As much as she wanted to go back to camp she wished this wasn't a dream if only for the food alone.

Seeing a shirtless, sparkling boy with a burn scar twisting across half his face would no doubt reassure Clarke as to the reality of the situation.

"New kid?"

"I...guess?" Everybody else was the new kid to her. "And you aren't?"

"Been here since the end of last summer," he said, smiling one of his more charming grins and offering a hand. "I'm Face."

"Face," she repeated, shaking the offered hand. She was unsure if she heard that right. "I'm Clarke."

"It's a nickname," he explained. Not that Garik would be any more recognisable a name to her. "Nice to met you, Clarke."

"Oh." Yeah nickname made sense. Probably should have thought of that before. "Sorry, I'm kind of out of it. I didn't really expect to be here today."

Face grimaced sympathetically. "That happens sometimes." He nodded in Cassandra's direction. "Similar thing happened to Cassandra last semester."

"So this is a school?" she asked. "And somehow I'm a student here...despite never having registered."

"So, are you new too?" Cosima asked the blond girl,for no reason beyond that she was right there. "Or do you actually know what's going on here?"

"It's safe to say I have absolutely no idea what's going on here." And that was an understatement. "I'm not entirely convinced I'm not dreaming."

"I didn't sleep nearly well enough on the plane to be dreaming," Cosima noted. "But hey, I can't prove I'm not in your dream. Guess we'll know if things get really trippy."

She hadn't noticed the pink pony quite yet.

"Fair enough," Clarke said with a hint of a smile. "I'm Clarke."

"Cosima," Cosima returned, with a smile of her own and a little wave. "Which year are you? I'm going to be a junior."

"I-uh..." She looked down at her name tag like that would have the answer. "I don't really know to be honest. I didn't intend to come here."

"There seems to be a lot of that going around," Cosima said sympathetically. "I don't get it. People don't just go places they don't mean to go."

"It's easier to do than you'd think," she said. "I was just walking through the woods a hundred years into the future, apparently."

Ringo had noticed Clarke a bit earlier, and something about the other girl had caught her attention. She still wasn't sure what, but she'd spent a couple of minutes working up the courage to actually approach her and try for an introduction.

So she was smiling as she "casually" walked over and said "Hi, you look like you feel as lost as I do."

Oh, wait! That didn't sound rude, did it?

"I am," she admitted. "I have no idea what's going on."

"I have to admit that I didn't expect a picnic, either. Or all this glitter." Ringo lifted one hand to pull one of her pigtails around to examine. It was considerably more sparkly than it had been when she'd gotten up in the morning.

"That is kind of weird," she had to admit. "Well this whole thing is weird but the glitter makes it weirder."

"At least most of the food is pretty normal? At least the stuff that hasn't gotten glitter all over it." Which, admittedly, wasn't as common as it could be.

"It's better than what I'm used to." Even on the Ark the food had been kind of gross. "I might try to take some back with me."

Ringo grinned. "I suspect I'll stash some in my room, too," she responded.

"I mean, food back home is fine, but this is, like, a feast." It wasn't like they'd ever had a ton of money back home.

"And there's less dead animal carcasses roasting over an open flame than I'm used to," Clarke said. "...we're kind of outdoorsy."
