Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Seeing a shirtless, sparkling boy with a burn scar twisting across half his face would no doubt reassure Clarke as to the reality of the situation.

"New kid?"

"I...guess?" Everybody else was the new kid to her. "And you aren't?"

"Been here since the end of last summer," he said, smiling one of his more charming grins and offering a hand. "I'm Face."

"Face," she repeated, shaking the offered hand. She was unsure if she heard that right. "I'm Clarke."

"It's a nickname," he explained. Not that Garik would be any more recognisable a name to her. "Nice to met you, Clarke."

"Oh." Yeah nickname made sense. Probably should have thought of that before. "Sorry, I'm kind of out of it. I didn't really expect to be here today."

Face grimaced sympathetically. "That happens sometimes." He nodded in Cassandra's direction. "Similar thing happened to Cassandra last semester."

"So this is a school?" she asked. "And somehow I'm a student here...despite never having registered."

"Pretty much," Face said. "I actually meant to come here, but your situation's not unusual."

For Fandom measures of usual.

"Really?" she asked. "I mean, apparently I'm in the past. Doesn't that weird you out?"

Face shrugged. "There's people here from all over my galaxy's timeline," he said. "You get used to it after a while."

Plus as shocking revelations went nothing ever really topped 'you've been inspiring people to join and support a genocidal, totalitarian government since you were a tiny child'.

"I hope so," she said. "Though I should really try to get back to my people."

Face winced. "That mightn't be so easy," he said. "Cassandra's been trying to leave since she got here."

Dragging Anders with her, not that he knew about that.

"That's not very encouraging."

"No, it's not," Face agreed. "But stiil, you might get lucky and figure it out."

"I hope so," Clarke said. "I don't know if my people will do well without me."

"But you're not going to do them any good if you kill yourself with stress over it either," Face gently pointed out. "Look at it this way, while you're here you've the the opportunity to learn things that might be useful to them. The classes can be weird, but there's some good ones, and there's a library with a ridiculous number of books and holonet access."

That was logical. It was irritating, but she had to admit it was logical.

"I guess so," she said. "It would be interesting to see how the world was before it got destroyed."

Revel in that logic, because you may not see the like of it again from Face.

"Wait, destroyed?" From her appearance he figured she'dhad a rough few days at the very least, but this... "But I like this planet." It was weird, but nice.

Clarke almost laughed at the way he said that. "It's about a hundred years into the future, apparently, you don't need to worry about it."

"Just because I'm not going to be around to see it doesn't meant I shouldn't care about this place ending up like Alderaan." It should be noted that the last time Face had known about a planet getting destroyed had actually been blown up as opposed to having its biosphere irradiated. "Don't mention that part to Atton...Professor Rand, he's from there and it hasn't happened yet in his timeline."

"Uh, no problem," she said. "I don't even know what any of that means."

"Right, different galaxy," Face said, rubbing his eyes. "Alderaan was a planet, peaceful, no military, population of about two billion. The Empire blew it up with the Death Star nearly three years ago now." Not the best way to have your abduction and supposed death knocked off the headlines.

Clarke nodded that made a little bit of sense even though it didn't. "Yeah, humanity destroyed Earth without the help of Death Stars. They did it all on their own."

The Empire being rabidly pro-Human was probably a explanation best left to another time. "This planet barely has space-flight yet," he said. "How did you get to the point of blowing it up and not all dying in a hundred years?"

Technically it was a little over thirty-five.
