Faculty Meeting (Friday after classes)

After the student council cleared out, Zoe got the council room set up for yet another meeting, hoping all the teachers had gotten her ~~handwavey~~ email. Sure, classes had only been in session for a week, but she figured it was a good idea to check the new teachers for shell shock early. There were warm food and drinks set out (not the leftovers from the student council... at least, not totally) but nothing alcoholic. If people wanted to go that route, they would have to bring their own this time.

"Hello there, come on in and have a seat if you'd like," she said. "I thought it might be good for everyone to have a chance to get together without students around, and be inside where it's warm. I hope everyone's had a good first week. If you haven't, well, now you have a room full of people to vent to." It was the little things that helped make this job better.

Eliot nodded, impressed. "Well hell. You're willing to share, I ain't gonna turn that down." He set his mug aside, going for a fresh one.

One did not mix teacher's lounge coffee machine dregs with quality coffee.

"I see no reason why anyone with a palate should be drinking that." Hannibal poured him a cup. "How was your first week?"

Eliot shrugged. "Coulda been worse." Actually, he'd had a great time. He just wasn't about to admit it anywhere Parker might overhear. "Class is full of a buncha little psychos, but as I recall that's pretty typical for a high school."

He was maybe a little grumpy that only one student hadn't gone for the "leap off the roof" option.

"I suppose that depends upon your definition of 'psycho'," Hannibal answered. "The radio said you had them jump off a roof?"

"In the Danger Shop. With safety lines attached." Eliot sipped his much nicer coffee. "It was Parker's idea." And she was actually crazy. Just, you know, in a fun and useful way.

"Since the radio hadn't reported any gruesome deaths, I was assuming it was something like that." Hannibal chuckled. "Still, the word 'creative' is there in the title. Parker is your co-teacher?"

"We gave 'em options." The non-jumping ones would've required more creativity, if you asked Eliot. He nodded. "We work together on the mainland. She's been, uh. Curious about the island since I moved here."

To say the least.

"Difficult not to be, particularly if you tell the truth," Hannibal noted. "How is she enjoying it so far?"

"She hasn't stabbed or tased anyone yet," Eliot said. "I'd say she's having a good time." He spotted her talking to the pony and narrowed his eyes a little.

No way would those two be good influences on each other.

"Is that a serious danger?" Hannibal followed Eliot's gaze. "She seems to be fitting in well."

"Only if you piss her off," Eliot said. "We've gotten her to tone way down on that over the years." She no longer joked about putting razor blades in Eliot's food, for instance. "She, uh. Didn't have the most traditional upbringing. We're still working on the whole concept of 'high school'."

Hannibal chuckled. "I can't imagine this place being held up as an exemplar."

"Not so much." Eliot shrugged. "Of course, I ain't exactly the most experienced teacher either." Three days for a con didn't count. He did miss the kids at Dalton Academy sometimes, though.

"Experience is less important than knowledge and caring," Hannibal pointed out. "Although perhaps experience in safety harnesses is a good thing."

"That's Parker's area of expertise." Eliot took the stairs, thank you. "She handles the, uh." He went through a few expressions as he tried to work out a properly descriptive yet non-criminal description for what Parker did -- and failed. "She's a thief."

Have you checked for your wallet lately, Hannibal?

He had not, no! He hadn't known there was need. And he wasn't going to be so rude as to grab for it now. He probably carried a bit more cash than some people, but it still wasn't more than he could stand to lose. His ID didn't say anything he wouldn't if asked. And if it were missing, he'd know who to ask for it back.

"With methods a bit more complicated than mugging people or credit card fraud, I'm guessing," Hannibal answered, eyeing her interestedly. Since neither of those really took safety harnesses. Or the sorts of violence that Eliot was clearly capable of.

[OOC: And yep, that's total permission for Parker to have swiped his wallet. Though if she doesn't put it back, he will come asking for it! :)]

Hey, they were flexible. If the con called for mugging or credit card fraud, they'd get it done. "Not unless she's really bored."

Hannibal chuckled. "In that case, you've brought her to the right place. Fandom may be many things, but it's rarely boring."

"Brought her nothing. She's the type that just kinda goes where she's going, whether you like it or not."

Hannibal smiled at that. "Some of our students could stand to learn a bit of that confidence."

"Long as they don't pick up on too much of the recklessness."

Because Eliot was totally never ever reckless. Totally.
