Faculty Meeting (Friday after classes)

After the student council cleared out, Zoe got the council room set up for yet another meeting, hoping all the teachers had gotten her handwavey email. Sure, classes had only been in session for a week, but she figured it was a good idea to check the new teachers for shell shock early. There were warm food and drinks set out (not the leftovers from the student council... at least, not totally) but nothing alcoholic. If people wanted to go that route, they would have to bring their own this time.

"Hello there, come on in and have a seat if you'd like," she said. "I thought it might be good for everyone to have a chance to get together without students around, and be inside where it's warm. I hope everyone's had a good first week. If you haven't, well, now you have a room full of people to vent to." It was the little things that helped make this job better.

"Hell, he'd probably figure out how to make it portable." But not waterproof. "He'd never make it past all those stairs in town, though.'

"It's probably for the best," Hannibal noted after a moment. "Whatever you do, you should probably see that he never meets Barry Ween." If Eliot's friend was another like him, the multiverse might not survive.

"Barry," Eliot said. "He the kid who's always hanging out in a warehouse?"

Radio was both informative and frustratingly not.

"Yes," Hannibal answered. "He's quite helpful, and seems pleasant enough if you don't mind his rather colorful language," which really amused Hannibal, though dear god, he'd never take the boy to a society dinner, and he had no idea how Elsa would manage, "but he's extremely bright and very into scientific experimentation. Not always with the best of results."

"Ain't that always the case." Technology, in Eliot's experience, usually led to something going horribly wrong. Usually because of other people trying to steal it.

"The more brilliant and focused a person is, the less aware they often are of the consequences of their research."

"They tend to be a little obsessive," Eliot agreed. "The real smart ones figure out they need other folks on hand to reign 'em in."

Nate, for instance. He wasn't an inventor but he definitely needed someone to remind him of reality. No matter how much it chafed the man whenever Eliot did it.

"Barry has a number of friends that seem determined to keep him from too much trouble. We can only hope. And keep him away from similarly bright and obsessive types."

Eliot nodded. "Good. This place gets enough weird without one of its own causin' it."
