Library [12/9]

It was a normal day in the library. Well, as normal as a day in the library at Fandom High ever got, given... well... things. (Hey, it was what it was.)

She swept a stack of books up off a table and dumped them on a cart, proceeding to move through the library and clear off the rest of the tables in the same way. It was one of the more "typical library duties" days of things, as opposed to the "Fandom library duties" days. Sometimes there was a rather clear difference.

After the radio broadcast - Handsome Jack's, that is - Billy had decided to head for the library. Condescending tones from weird strangers didn't sit well with him, and you know what did make him pants-wettingly super duper excited? Searching the internet for people to try to find out all about them and their ridiculous names. Seriously, who called themselves Handsome anything?
solarhippie: ([neu] Yeaaah I am not sure.)

"Hey, Billy," Karolina said, coming over when her own attempts at research weren't yielding much. Seriously, she needed to take a class on this stuff. "Are you trying to look into the new guys on the island too?"

"Yeah. Call me untrustworthy, but anyone who calls this place boring has clearly not done their own research, and I'm not sure what kind of a sign that is," he said. "Have you found much of anything?"
solarhippie: ([neu] O rly?)

Karolina shook her head. "No." Damn her lousy Google-fu! "Not even close. Have you?"

"Hey, find anything interesting yet?" Alana asked, when she got bored with the book about the Hyperion Hotel she was reading. "'Cause I'm not even sure what I'm looking at."

[personal profile] selfhelphero 2013-12-09 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if it's interesting stuff. I keep finding the same kind of things over and over about the Hyperion Corporation, but they're all coming from Hyperion so I don't think I'm actually getting anywhere," Billy said with a sigh. "And everything about this Handsome Jack guy, what little there seems to be, is also coming from there and I kind of want to find their publicity people and shake them a little." That was a good way to deal with annoyance as far as Billy was concerned.

"Where are their publicity people?" Alana asked idly. It sounded like Billy wasn't doing much better than she was. "Maybe we could ... I don't know, drive there and kick shins until they tell us what's up."

Yeah, all of the stuff going on had Karolina uncomfortable and worried. She'd been uncomfortable ever since the gun machines had shown up, but now everything else was rubbing her the wrong way, too.

So here she was. She had no idea where to even start, but she felt like she should've been doing somethinng, if for nothing else then to just ease her own mind. Because maybe she was just paranoid.

Also, maybe her computer skills weren't the greatest. Mostly she was trying to Google Hyperion.

Riley, being the hacker boy that he was, opened up his laptop and immediately started trying to tap into any WiFi signals or any other weird computer networks this Hyperion company had set up.

He wasn't having any success but while he was searching, he was doing some digging too.

Re: Researchers!

[personal profile] solarhippie 2013-12-09 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Karolina was no good at this computerized research thing. Time to get polite and ask for help.

"Uh, excuse me? Can I ask you a question?"

Re: Researchers!

[identity profile] 1stinkinpercent.livejournal.com 2013-12-09 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It took Riley a moment to figure out she was talking to him. And then when he looked up, he glanced over his shoulder like maybe there was someone else she was asking.

...right, he was an adult here. He cleared his throat. "What's up?"
solarhippie: ([neu] Do you need advice?)

Re: Researchers!

[personal profile] solarhippie 2013-12-09 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if it made him feel any better, he didn't look too much like a grown up and an authority figure, because that could've swayed her away from talking to him. Mostly, he'd looked like he knew what he was doing with a computer.

"Hi," she said. "Um, how do I search for things that aren't... really on our internet?"

This multiverse stuff was difficult.

After offering the thing up in general to the library, Raven spotted one of her teachers and figured, well, he wasn't Doom, so he wouldn't be overly nasty about it all, and he wasn't the Ice King, so he wouldn't be completely incompetent.

Sorry, Riley, but confidence in the teaching staff in general wasn't super high with this one.

"Mr. Poole?" she asked as she came up. "You know some stuff about gadgets and things, right?"

Re: Researchers!

[identity profile] 1stinkinpercent.livejournal.com 2013-12-09 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like to think so, yeah," Riley said, leaning back and looking up. He would have been glad to rate over Doom and the Ice King, if he'd known. "What's up?"

Alana did not start out planning to do research. Alana started out planning to find another romance novel.

But eventually, she drifted over to the group researching and started thumbing through an abandoned book. The radio broadcast had been bizarre for sure, and the gun machines were worse; it couldn't hurt to read up on the people behind it, or at least try to.

After her adventure at the dig site, Raven headed for the library, resisting the urge to poke around at the ECHO gizmo on the way. It seemed like a pretty straight forward enough sort of device, but she didn't want to blow the fact that she had the thing wide open to the guys who thought it was a good idea to put a gun machine in a high school lobby by hitting the wrong button.

"Hey," she called as she came in and saw that others were around, looking things up. She'd changed back to her usual form as soon as she was clear of the dig site, though she was still mimicking the helmet, which she had perched at a jaunty angle. "Anyone think they might know what to do with one of these?" She held the ECHO communicator aloft like a prize.

'Cause, hey. It kind of was.

Just because Surreal didn't spend much time in the library, didn't mean she didn't know this was where the smart ones went in a crisis.

"Who wants to play with my new shiny?" she crowed, tossing it up-and-down in the air. "It's mine, you can't keep it, but I'll trade you nutcakes if you show me how to work it."

Someone was planning on pranking the invading males with her New Shiny, oh yes.

Jessica was pleased that either so many people were taking their studies seriously or that so many other people were unsettled by recent developments in town and on the radio.

Now she just had to figure out what she could do to help the effort with books. Unless "the effort" in this case actually was studying. She could probably help with that pretty easily.

At one point in the day, Constantine swung by Shira's desk, plopping down a large box and a sign.

"No guns in the library," he reminded her, putting the sign next to the box. "I don't want the books getting ideas, and if anyone has a problem with that, you send them to me."
