Once he pings in!

Jackson had brought his lacrosse stick and some other gear with him as props (because you couldn't trust these people to even know what the sport was about, sigh), and he had a neatly printed sign on his desk stating the club's name.

And he was wearing a Beacon Hills Lacrosse t-shirt, too, as he sat behind the desk, looking relaxed but slightly critical as he surveyed the gym. He wanted an athletic bunch for this club.

Korra hadn't actually been too interested in joing any clubs, but she recognised sports equipment when she saw it. She frowned at the sign until she thought she had the letters worked out. "What's ...lac-rose?"

"Lacrosse," Jackson said. Helpfully. Luckily he'd mentally prepared himself to take explanations all the way down to the basics. "It's a contact sport, you play it with sticks and a ball which you try to to shoot in the opposing team's goal."

And look at him not being disdainful at Korra being a girl, either! He'd kind of figured this couldn't be a guys-only thing at a school this small.

"Huh, sounds easy and fun." It wasn't that Korra meant to sound dismissive, but when you'd played a sport that involved fire and bending clay discs at people, easy was relative.

"Lacrosse, really? I didn't think this school even did sports!"

Not that Ace was was much of a sport girl, but she made exceptions for anything where you could end up smacking some arse upside the head with a stick.

"It didn't," Jackson replied, matter-of-factly. And secretly already wondering whether there were going to be any guys interested in joining. Although so help him, he was going to play even if the club ended up being him and a bunch of girls. Just as long as none of them were better than him. "Hence, the club."

Better than him at playing (ahaha no) or at creatively channeling their aggression and resentment? Because um.

"Well, I'm in." Ace paused. "Long as we don't have to bring our own equipment, 'cos all I've got's a baseball bat."

Jackson rolled his eyes. "You've played before –- well, you've been to practice." Let's be real here. "Much as it pains me to say it, that puts you ahead of the rest of the ladies."

"Oh calling me a lady, that's a good one," Stiles said, forcing out a laugh. "Most of the ladies here can kick your ass, you know."

Victor's entire lacrosse experience involved Chase, who'd lettered in lacrosse, drilling with him a couple times when they both got restless; he pretty much thought of it as a rich kid's sport.

Still, it wouldn't kill him to do something athletic, and he was more likely to keep it up if he was working with a team. He hesitated by the table.

"I thought Fandom was a no-sports-teams kind of school."

"Not anymore," Jackson told him, only eyeing him a little bit warily. It was all about McCall. Sorry, Victor. "This school needs one, so I'm getting it together."

Translation: Jackson needed a sports team to live.

"Cool," Victor decided, looking wary in return as he scribbled his name. "I haven't been on a sports team in, um ... ever, so that'll be new."

Arietty scaled the side of the table, overhearing several conversations as she did so -- it took a little while, okay? Suction cup table climbing was not an exact science. By the time she got to the top, she'd worked out that this was a table for some kind of full-contact sports team, which meant that odds were really good she shouldn't join it.

But she'd just climbed all the way up here, dammit, she was going to get some social time out of it.

"Are there height limits for this club?" she asked, stomping her way to the center of the table in a manner she thought made her look at least a little bad ass. "Or can anyone join?"

Jackson was looking up, so when he heard a voice, his first instinct was to glance around. When that yielded no result, he looked down.

And then... he kind of stared.

Congratulations, Arietty. You just shocked Jackson into silence.

King of all sports if you asked him. But he would've said that about whichever one happened to be what he was playing.
