Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson got to the gym early. He took his mission of establishing a sports team in Fandom pretty seriously, see. That involved making something of an effort, and showing up early to check out the competition (yes, he viewed the other clubs as competition, deal with it) was the least he could do.

He grabbed a copy of the club schedule for himself before he went to set up his table.

Korra hadn't actually been too interested in joing any clubs, but she recognised sports equipment when she saw it. She frowned at the sign until she thought she had the letters worked out. "What's ...lac-rose?"

"Lacrosse," Jackson said. Helpfully. Luckily he'd mentally prepared himself to take explanations all the way down to the basics. "It's a contact sport, you play it with sticks and a ball which you try to to shoot in the opposing team's goal."

And look at him not being disdainful at Korra being a girl, either! He'd kind of figured this couldn't be a guys-only thing at a school this small.

"Huh, sounds easy and fun." It wasn't that Korra meant to sound dismissive, but when you'd played a sport that involved fire and bending clay discs at people, easy was relative.

"It's not easy," Jackson informed her, raising an eyebrow. He might've had a different point of view had he known about the bending... but he'd probably have been too busy glowering at yet another superpowered person to think about it. "But winning is fun."

Jackson Whittemore in a nutshell, ladies and gentlemen.

Well, it wasn't like Korra had most of her bending any more, though some days she was getting to the point of going for nearly whole hours without mentally picking at that scab.

"You say that like easy's a bad thing," Korra said, crossing her arms. "I mean penguin sledding's the easiest thing ever and that's heaps of fun." Because you know it was normal for kids to use the local wildlife as temporary toboggans.

Jackson gave her the kind of blank look that suggested it was entirely her fault that sentence made next to no sense to him.

"Uh huh," he said, with a hint of saracsm. "Well, lacrosse isn't easy. Not for a beginner."

If Jackson didn't know about penguin sledding, then Korra felt very sorry for him. "I just don't see what's so tricky about a ball, a stick and a goal." It could hardly be more complicated than pro-bending and she'd picked that up quickly enough.

Jackson's skills at lacrosse were very important to him, okay. It was best not to stomp on that, lest he go out and angrily practice shots in the dark.

Because he'd do that. ~~It was canon!~~

"Fine," he said, really not impressed with her attitude. But, she seemed to have confidence and maybe she'd turn out to have some skill, so... "Do you want to join or not?"

She wasn't trying to stomp anything, she just had a tendency to forget that little thing called tact sometimes. "Sure, why not."

And Jackson was kind of a drama queen.

It was going to work awesomely.

He pointed over at the sign-up sheet. "Write down your name there."

"Right. I'm Korra by the way," she added. Because she doubted he could read the characters that made up her name.

Jackson was going to be really grateful once he figured that out.

But for now, he just nodded and said, "Jackson." Because he managed some semblance of politeness every once in a while. Plus it was good if the members knew the club leader's name.

"Nice to meet you," Korra said neutrally. He seemed like less of a jerk than Tahno, but that wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

And this was him playing nice. Wasn't that sad?

"Welcome to the club," he said. Then, just to be a good leader, he added, "Maybe take a look at some wikis or something before the first meeting to familiarize yourself with some of the basics of the game."

He was kind of expecting to start from the very basics with the whole group, though.

"...wikis?" Korra repeated, frowning.

You know in case the mentions of penguin sledding and the fact half her clothes were made of animal skins weren't a clue she wasn't from around here.

Jackson took a beat to get what the issue here might be. "Ask someone to show you the computer lab," he said once he had. "And explain the concept of searching for information online."

That... wasn't actually going to help, was it? Had he looked at her sign-up yet he could've guessed that.

"Riiiiiiight," Korra drawled, making a note to try and find Topher at some point since he actually seemed to be able to explain all these weird words.

Yes, she found Topher less confusing. Feel the shame, Jackson. FEEL THE SHAME.

Oh, BURN! Also the reason why every should hope Jackson was never assigned a little sibling.

"You'll figure it out," he said, not really sounding like he cared whether she did or not. "See you next week."
