Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

Jackson got to the gym early. He took his mission of establishing a sports team in Fandom pretty seriously, see. That involved making something of an effort, and showing up early to check out the competition (yes, he viewed the other clubs as competition, deal with it) was the least he could do.

He grabbed a copy of the club schedule for himself before he went to set up his table.

Yeah, Jackson still wasn't entirely sure this wasn't another one of his fun hallucinations. Though, if it was, it was a whole hell of a lot less distressing than the ones before, and he could pull himself together enough to actually respond to that.

"Are you trying to claim you could actually play?"

It wasn't even the ball that was the issue, it was the stick.

Maybe she could sub for the ball? She might even enjoy that, if she had enough padding.

"I can do anything."

Oh honey, no.

At that, Jackson slowly reached for the ball he'd brought with him.

Then he rolled it at her across the desk. Not too hard, he wasn't trying to hurt her. Just to make a point about how this was not something suited for people that tiny.

Arietty stood her ground. She was taller than it, after all. By a whole almost inch and a half! That was, like, more than a foot in full grown bean terms!

On the other hand, the ball weighed a whole lot more than she did, so this mostly resulted in her ending up clinging to it as it bowled her over. Oof.

"Okay, maybe I can do another job on the team," she suggested. Come on, Jackson, anthropomorphic ball. She could just run at the goal when she hit the ground!

Well, Jackson liked winning, but winning only to find out their smallest team member had been trampled in the process and he was to blame for putting her there did not really appeal to him.

"... Mascot?"

The tiniest mascot ever.

Arietty considered that. "What does a mascot do?"

This day was making Jackson feel like he was occasionally not even speaking English, judging by the reactions some of his words got.

"A mascot... represents the team," he said. Even though they didn't actually have a team yet.

Arietty wondered if maybe he was a little slow. "Okaaaaay," she said. "And how do they do that? I'm guessing I don't just sit on a bench and look pretty?"

She did look very pretty. Especially when she managed to borrow some high fashion doll clothes.

Hey, you try dealing with a miniature person wanting to get involved in sports! It did not make for snappy responses.

"Well you're a little small to be a mascot," Jackson replied, a little bit dryly. "I don't think normal mascot rules apply. If you put on a furry costume you're just going to look like a stuffed animal."

Arietty thought about this for a few moments. "The school mascot isn't furry," she noted. She knew from gremlins. "And the people in furry mascot costumes in the movies usually dance around and things. Stuffed animals usually don't do that." Not the ones she'd seen, which mind you, weren't very many.

Jackson rolled his eyes. "Whatever, you can do what you like." He didn't even know what the school mascot was supposed to be. Without a team, he hadn't had reason to care. "Just as long as you're not in the way."

Arietty narrowed her eyes. He was trying to get rid of her! Sure, maybe she really actually couldn't play on his team or whatever, but that was just rude!

"Whatever," she said, rolling her eyes. "It's not like this is much of a sport, anyway. They haven't even made a big movie franchise about it."

Pretty much everything Arietty knew about bean culture she'd learned from movies the theater in the Underground managed to borrow.

Jackson was rude, water was still wet. Arietty was learning! He waved a dismissive hand.

"That'd be more insulting coming from someone who can actually play sports."

And even then he probably wouldn't bother to get upset over someone's stupid opinion.

Arietty glared the glare of a pissed off sixteen year old girl, whipped out her dart gun, shot a dart at the center of Jackson's forehead, then made a mad dash for the edge of the table, throwing herself bodily off the side.

After falling a few inches, she pulled the rip cord on her parachute and floated back down to the ground.

She ended most arguments that way.
