Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

Zoe comes in, pleased to see that things seem to be under control. There's nothing like a weather disaster to bring out the best and the worst in people.

Ivanova steps up the woman who just came in, recognising her as the dean but never having actually met her before. Her origami crane was still fluttering along behind her, but seemed to be getting tired, because it settled on her shoulder as soon as she stopped. "Good evening, ma'am!" she says cheerfully, and extends the basket of sweets. "Chocolate or candy? I seem to be on morale detail at the moment."

"Morale detail, huh?" Zoe says, smiling softly. "That sounds like an interesting job." She takes a chocolate from the basket. "Do people seem to be doing all right in here? I don't know if the gym was designed to hold everyone in the town."

She glances around, taking stock and trying to report as best she could. Something about this woman brought out the military in her. "The students have organised several stations, and a few of the townies have set up a food line. Hot drinks, hot meals, as well as ration packs. There's a medical station set up, but Dr. Pevensie is the only doctor we have on hand at the moment. Blair is organising blankets and warm clothes and Maia is finding beds for displaced townies so we should be moving people out soon." Don't salute, Ivanova. She's the dean, not your commanding officer.

It's good to be around other military types. They're the ones who know how to get things done, after all. "Sounds like the food situation is covered. And if everyone gets put somewhere, won't that be a pleasant miracle?" Zoe smirks. "Thank you for filling me in. I think I'm going to check on Dr. Pevensie, to see if she needs any help. And forgive me, I don't believe I caught your name."

"Ivanova, ma'am. Susan Ivanova." She bit back the 'commander' bit. "I'm a senior. If you need a hand, give me a shout." She smirked. "Apparently I'm being paged by 'STELLAAAAAA!' at the moment. Oh, and coffee is being handled by the small cat in the suit and tophat, I believe. You might need some."
bigdamnprincipal: (i am laughing at you)

[personal profile] bigdamnprincipal 2006-01-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Well Susan, it's good to meet you. I'll be sure to call for you if I need anything - and I'll try to remember the proper way to page you."

"Please, ma'am, call me Ivanova," she replies with a bit of a wince. "Well, back to my rounds." She did salute this time before disappearing back into the crowd. A small origami crane fell off her shoulder, wafted towards the ground, recovered itself, and fluttered after her.

"Dean Washburn," Fraser says, greeting her, "Glad to see you've not been stranded out in the storm. How are you this evening?"
bigdamnprincipal: (i am actually smiling)

[personal profile] bigdamnprincipal 2006-01-28 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Rather cold, actually" Zoe replies, smirking. "But glad I didn't get caught outside. How are you doing?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Considering the circumstances, I'm doing well," Fraser says. "The students did a remarkable job of organizing things and everyone's been very calm and cooperative so far. Would you like me to get you something warm to drink? Coffee? Tea?"

[personal profile] bigdamnprincipal 2006-01-28 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"It certainly could have been worse, I'll say that. And I'm amazed at how well the students got organized. Every time I think they can't surprise me more, they do," Zoe replies. "I could probably use some coffee, if you could point me in the direction where I'd find it."

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"It most definitely could've been worse. Having removed two weapons from people tonight without incident was also a positive," Fraser adds. "The coffee is somewhere..." He glances towards the area he'd last seen coffee and points. "Somewhere over there. It's been quite the popular beverage since people from the town started arriving.

Zoe grumbles softly at the mention of weapons. "We should have thought to remind the townspeople not to bring their weapons at all. But, it'll be something to keep an eye on. I'm glad, and not terribly surprised, that you were able to get the weapons away without a problem."

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually, one was a student who'd received the weapon in a mailing and contacted me about it immediately. The other person was from town and slightly confused about his whereabouts." Fraser smiles. "That's very kind of you to say, Dean."

Hurrying by with his cane tucked under his arm, the Baron slowed when he heard her request. "Madam, you can find coffee this way, if you'll follow me," he said with his customary bow."
bigdamnprincipal: (i am intrigued)

[personal profile] bigdamnprincipal 2006-01-28 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Thank you," Zoe said. Coffee would definitely help her get through the rest of the night.

"Right this way," he said politely, and led her towards the hot beverage line, nodding to Alfred as they passed, his tail swishing. "I am Baron Humbert von Gikkingen, madam," he introduced himself gravely.
