Announcement and Refugee Hosting in The Gym, Friday Evening

The P.A. crackles to life.

"We shall be opening our doors to the poor, powerless townsfolk. They are to gather in the gym. Volunteers to help organize blankets, bedding, food, and etcetera would be very welcome."

Smith then walks down to the gym, props open the doors, and walks away. This was going to be a mess, and he felt ignoring it would be the best method to deal with it, rather than letting his head explode. Again.

[ooc: Huzzah! Townies can come to this post for their safety and warmth! Screening is disabled! Students and Teachers are welcome to organize something... but as it's an emergency, we hath not actually organized the refugee effort! Organize! Be Swift! But above all, interact and have fun!]

Deb sets up the freshest stuff she has--six blueberry pies and six pecan pies--at the end of the food table. She opens the cookie boxes showing everything from lenmon bars to chocolate chip.

"Helluva a way to meet the competition, huh?" she asks Alfred.

Alfred smiled. "Well there are worse ways. I was expecting to meet a lot of the town tonight at my opening."

Deb laughs. "You can say that again. Could be worse, we could be huddled in a church like we were over Zombie Weekend. Funny, I fed people then too. I think it's a natural reaction in a crisis."

Passing by the food table and overhearing the conversation, Inara laughs. "Well, you do serve comfort food, Deb. And at times like these, people want comfort."

"Inara, honey. Everyone okay at your place? Glad you're in where it's warm."

Lana makes her way over to Deb and gives her a hug. "Deb! I'm so glad you're here. I was worried about you!"

Deb hugs her back. "I'm fine, honey. One of those nice men in armor helped us get up here. Have a cookie, I brought all I had made."

Lana laughs. "That's so like you! People come to rescue you and you bring food to feed them!"

Deb gives her a smile. "They would have just frozen and gotten nasty. It was better to get them into people who would enjoy them. Didn't want them going to waste."

Lana smiles at her, then bites her lip and looks more serious. "Did Michael and Ben get away safely? Before the storm? You must be really sorry to have them go."

"The lights were off at the Emporium, so I'm praying kind of hard. I'll go kick St. Christopher's butt if they're stranded." She looks sad for a moment, and all of her 60 years are showing. "Yeah. But it's such a great chance for them. And anything to get them out before this country goes completely fascist is a good thing."

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Lana hugs her again. "It *is* a great opportunity. And they'll be together." She looks a little wistful. "It's just kind of hard to say goodbye when I just found them, you know?"

She immediately looks embarrassed. "Of course you know, how stupid a question was that? Sorry."

Inara indicates the gym behind them. "The girls that were still in the brothel are in here. I didn't see Becky or Miho, though. And Jarod...I haven't seen him since earlier today."

Looking around at the people crowding in, she comments, "The town's bigger than I thought. Or else we've just got a few new people..."

Alfred laughed as well. "We do what we can, my dear. Though I suspect I have other services that could be called into use during a zombie crisis, I"m happy to provide food and water to those who need it. After all, I have the staff."

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Speaking of staff, sir." Walter appeared at Alfred's elbow. "Togusa's Tachikoma is refusing to go out in the weather. I wanted to inform you that I will be back with the cooking staff again should you need me."

Re: FOOD LINE

[identity profile] badassbutler.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Alfred nodded. "Well, I can hardly blame it. No one should be out in this weather. I'm amazed the troopers do it. Get back to cooking, young one. I think they could use some help making soup."

Lucas looked between Alfred's food, Wonka's chocolate, and Deb's pies and cookies. He tilted his head. He twisted his mouth. He was torn. He made a decision.

"May I?" he asked, with a bow to Deb, before scooping a handful or two of the cookies into his helmet.

"Hi, sweetie. Help yourself. What a way to start in a new town, huh?"

"That's one way of putting it." Lucas tosses a few more handfuls of cookies into his helmet, then looks consideringly at the pie. "Do you work at the school?"

[identity profile] pflag-mom-deb.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no." Deb laughs. "I'm Debbie Novotny of Deb's Diva Dive in town. I know all the faces, and I haven't seen yours."

"There's probably a reason for that." Lucas tucked his helmet back under his arm. "I'm Lucas, of the not yet opened Empire Records and Bidet. Just got into town this morning."

Victor swung by quickly as he made his rounds, watching out for anyone injured.

"Deb!" he exclaimed. "Good to see you made it!"
