Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

Grissom hands everyone an article to read skim when they come in.

"So, are men truly more violent than women? The current population of the prison system, much of history, perhaps even biological factors, may lend you to agree. But the population of women in prisons is on the rise, and there are hundreds of scientists, philosophers, and politicians who would disagree.

Today, I just want to hear what you think, although support of your ideas is always encouraged, and feel free to engage your classmates."

Homework: Read Gender, Violence and the Social Order by Jayne Mooney for Wednesday. It's only 274 pages.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Today, we will be studying The Scientific Method. For some of you, this is old news. For others, perhaps not. It is important for all of us to be on the same page when it comes to evaluating the paranormal, and although all of us have been introduced to new ideas and even sciences in Fandom, there must be some base for us to work from, and we will be using proper Earth scientific procedures for the most part."

Grissom lectures quickly, then hands each student a brown paper bag. Inside each is a box of Twinkies.

"You will be assigned partners and a lab station below. Please take your test materials to the proper work desk now, and remember, I want to see you form and test a hypothesis."

"Also, don't eat any twinkies you use in the experiments. I have extras, if you are seriously hungry. Please use all the proper equipment, and ask if you have any questions."

"I don't see why the gender stereotype even has to be there," says Aeryn, who's probably more violent than most men she's ever known. "Even here, the females are more likely to hit you for being stupid than the males are."

"I definitely think females can be just as violent as males," Piper says. "I keep hearing stories about how vicious teenage girls in particular can be to each other. So yeah, females can be very nasty and violent."

Lee snorts. "The most dangerous soldiers in our Fleet are women. I've never been of the opinon that men are more violent than women."

Peter suppressed a laugh as he remembered some of his most recent fights.

"Most of the fights I've been in seen have been between men, but some of the tougher fights have involved women. They can be just as violent. And brutal. And scary. Definitely."

This test will take longer than the class period, so leave it out until next class. There are some slightly more dangerous chemicals to use as well, for fun. Please, wear gloves and goggles.

Go through the drawers if you want, but don't find anything too dirty, although whatever is in there would freak Jaye out, bien sur.

The elevator is to your left when you walk out of the lab. Take it to the top of the building. And don't peg anyone with a Twinkie unless you can find someone to peg, then go for it, Grissom will totally get you out of trouble, Syd and Archie are around and potential, willing victims.

"Here are my keys," he says as he hands them to her. "Go through my office and you'll find the microwave and supplies. I'll be right there."

Cordelia looks at Dr Grissom, attempting not to say something offensive or protest at all. Who knows, this guy could be cool. But still, paired off with the professor? No fair.

"Um, okay," she said eventually, taking the keys from him and heading over to the office.
