Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

Grissom hands everyone an article to read ~~skim~~ when they come in.

"So, are men truly more violent than women? The current population of the prison system, much of history, perhaps even biological factors, may lend you to agree. But the population of women in prisons is on the rise, and there are hundreds of scientists, philosophers, and politicians who would disagree.

Today, I just want to hear what you think, although support of your ideas is always encouraged, and feel free to engage your classmates."

Homework: Read Gender, Violence and the Social Order by Jayne Mooney for Wednesday. It's only 274 pages.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Today, we will be studying The Scientific Method. For some of you, this is old news. For others, perhaps not. It is important for all of us to be on the same page when it comes to evaluating the paranormal, and although all of us have been introduced to new ideas and even sciences in Fandom, there must be some base for us to work from, and we will be using proper Earth scientific procedures for the most part."

Grissom lectures quickly, then hands each student a brown paper bag. Inside each is a box of Twinkies.

"You will be assigned partners and a lab station below. Please take your test materials to the proper work desk now, and remember, I want to see you form and test a hypothesis."

"Also, don't eat any twinkies you use in the experiments. I have extras, if you are seriously hungry. Please use all the proper equipment, and ask if you have any questions."

Broots patted the control Twinkie. "There, there, don't worry, they won't feel a thing." There's definetly a smile playing on his lips. "Maybe we should cover it up?"

Lana gravely takes a tissue and, after turning the Twinkie so its back is to the workstation, carefully covers him with it. "There. I think that will do."

Broots ducked under the table to laugh and then ducked back out. "Ahem. Let's get everything ready so we can go as soon as person three shows up?"

Lana couldn't keep a straight face anymore. "That sounds good. So... our hypothesis? Twinkies will burn if doused with enough accelerant?"

Broots freed a Twinkie from his new box and began to kill it. "Yup. Oh, want one? And um, the more accelerant, the longer it'll burn?"

"No, I'll pass thanks. And yeah, that sounds about right." She looks at all the stuff laid out. "So, should we wait for Walter or light one up now just to see?"

"Let's light one up now, and then Walter can catch up when he shows up." Broots rubbed his hands together. "Burn my pretties, burn." ~~At this point, his mun is seriously beginning to question where the hell he was all weekend~~

Lana smiles a little nervously at him, but helps douse the twinkie in alcohol. "Are there tongs or something to hold the twinkie while it burns or some sort of stainless steel basin or something?"

Lana probably had the right reaction. "Um, let's see." Broots glanced around the workstation and procured a basin. "Basin."

"So who does the honors?" Lana asked, carefully depositing the twinkie into the steel basin.

"May I?" Broots gleefully lit the Twinkie and watched it burn, burn, burn! ~~Apparently, he took a few bottles of Mountain Dew and his laptop, went up to the roof and plotted how to take over the world. Or end it.~~

Lana carefully documented the colors of the flames and how long it took to burn itself out. "Well, I guess we were right. It burned."

"Woo. Want to try adding more burning fluid?"

"Pyro," Lana says with a smile. "Sure. Why not?"

"Am not!" Broots pouted. "This is just fun." He grabbed another Twinkie and happily added more lighter fluid.

"Okay, but I get to set this one on fire this time," Lana says, standing ready with the lighter.

"Go ahead." Broots grabbed the notebook and got ready to take notes.

Lana took the lighter carefully in hand and lit the heavily doused twinkie. It flared up so quickly she had to jump back or risk singeing something.

"Wow! Guess we put on a lot of extra lighting fluid that time!"

Broots looked around innnocently. "Who, me?"

Lana just laughed and put their latest Twinkie victim off to the side.

Broots grabbed Twinkie number three. "Last one?"

"Let's see if we can make a real fireball this time," Lana says and adds even more lighter fluid.

"Fireball, not 'set the lab on fire', kay?" But Broots made no move to stop her. "Me or you?"

While Broots patted the Twinkie, Grissom came over and wordlessly slipped Broots an extra box with a smirk.

Broots flashed Dr. Grissom a huge smile and patted his new friends.
