Sociology of Violence: 2nd Period

Grissom hands everyone an article to read ~~skim~~ when they come in.

"So, are men truly more violent than women? The current population of the prison system, much of history, perhaps even biological factors, may lend you to agree. But the population of women in prisons is on the rise, and there are hundreds of scientists, philosophers, and politicians who would disagree.

Today, I just want to hear what you think, although support of your ideas is always encouraged, and feel free to engage your classmates."

Homework: Read Gender, Violence and the Social Order by Jayne Mooney for Wednesday. It's only 274 pages.

Sociology of the Paranormal: 6th Period

"Today, we will be studying The Scientific Method. For some of you, this is old news. For others, perhaps not. It is important for all of us to be on the same page when it comes to evaluating the paranormal, and although all of us have been introduced to new ideas and even sciences in Fandom, there must be some base for us to work from, and we will be using proper Earth scientific procedures for the most part."

Grissom lectures quickly, then hands each student a brown paper bag. Inside each is a box of Twinkies.

"You will be assigned partners and a lab station below. Please take your test materials to the proper work desk now, and remember, I want to see you form and test a hypothesis."

"Also, don't eat any twinkies you use in the experiments. I have extras, if you are seriously hungry. Please use all the proper equipment, and ask if you have any questions."

She pokes her head in through the door. "Can I swipe a twinkie, Dr. Grissom?"

"As long as you promise not to read the ingredients," he says with a soft smile, walking around the room with a garbage bag in his hand and a roll of paper towels in the other.

"I know they're made from beef parts. I still eat them."

"I just didn't want to end up on the receiving end of a Twinkie projectile."

Grissom puts down some of the garbage he's collected from cleaning the lab, wiping his hands on another towel, and then reaches into his desk for an extra box of Twinkies.

"I take supplements to make up for the nutrients I do not receive by not eating meat. And I've yet to make a twinkie projectile, though I did hear of incidents of people being bombed by them today." An amused look while she takes the package.

"Huh... interesting... don't know how that could have happened."

He shrugs, but his guilty, hand-in-the-cookie-jar grin gives him away.

"And I have more vitamins than you do. So, I win."

"We were competing?" She takes a large bite out of the twinkie.

"No." He reaches out and wipes a small dot of filling from the corner of her mouth while she chews.

"Is it true that twinkies could survive a nuclear holocaust?"

"According to Hostess, the only have a shelf life of a month. However, if you'd like to observe some of my students' work today, I think you'll find they have a frightening level of durability in certain situations. But I don't think even a Twinkie could survive a true ground zero. Of course, the effects of a nuclear explosion are determined by many variables, including the type of bomb, the height at which detonation occurs, the weather, and the properties of the target."

"Geek." Said with utmost affection and hypocrisy.

"How'd your class experiments go, aside from targeting unsuspecting victims?"

"I hope the kids enjoyed them, but I don't know if I am an accurate judge of the teenaged temperament. The goal was to get the kids used to using the Scientific Method even in the context of this course, but deliver it in way that they'd actually recall the information.

I know Broots really liked getting free snacks?"

"I had my bio students work on cell models for prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. I'm not quite trusting my chemistry students to do an experiment involving gases."

"Yeah, I made sure my students working with open flames were located near the back, and the emergency shower."

"I think both of us have met our explosion quota for the next year or so," she says with a brief flash of humor.

"Can I have another twinkie?"

"I would just like to share how tempted I am to withhold them."

Grissom reaches back behind him though, and extracts another Twinkie from the box, waving it about slightly. "Are you sure about this? Not very healthy to have TWO Twinkies in one day, Miss Sidle."

"I promise to work out twice as hard tonight," she says innocently.

"Going for another run and leaving me to my own devices again? Also highly illogical," he says, purposefully playing along.

"I was actually thinking of staying in, doing push-ups and squat thrusts." She snags the package with ease.

"You should probably add hip thrusts to your regimen," he grins. "For a all-around well-balanced fitness plan."

"Maybe the splits to maintain flexibility?" Mmmmm, yummy twinkie.

"I'll have to make sure I return to the apartment in a prompt and timely manner this afternoon, for safety purposes. You should really have someone spot you."

"As always, I appreciate your consideration, Dr. Grissom. Have a pleasant afternoon."

She totally snatches another on her way out.

"And you too, Professor Sidle."

He totally stares at her butt on her way out.
