Library, 1/16

[chasingangela]

A subdued and somewhat red-eyed Angela opens the library at the start of second period and props herself behind the collections desk. She casts a glance at the pile of books to be sorted; she'll get to them eventually.

And then she just sits there, staring into space and thinking.

She has her head buried in her hands, but she would be more alert if someone came in. Probably.

Zero bops into the library, looking cheerful and refreshed. "Morning, Angela!

Rory followed shortly after assuming this wasn't during 4th period, also cheery.

"Hi, hi, hi!"

"Hi," Angela says, a little weakly. "You two are, like, the happiest people in Fandom."

"Had fun last ni - " Rory stopped abruptly. "Are you okay?"

Angela shakes her head. "Not especially. I broke up with Marty. Sorry for the sarcasm."

Rory stared, and went to sit by Angela, draping an arm around her shoulders. "Oh, no. What happened? Do you want to talk about it?"

Parker winced and didn't say anything, just gave Angela a sympathetic look, since she'd heard this the night before.

"I guess? I mean, it's hard to explain." She pauses and tucks hair behind her ear.

"Things had been weird with us for a while -- since I was old, at least, and maybe longer. I dunno. But we weren't really hanging out, and when we did we kept snapping at each other, and I kissed my ex while I was home. Which was terrible, but if I can do something like that, I would rather end the relationship before I really make him hate me."

"It still hurts, though. A whole lot."

"Angela, are you all right?" Zero looks a little worried as well.

"Physically. Not so much emotionally," Angela says wryly. "Sorry for getting all emo on you."

"Hi, Rory! How's it going?"

"Pretty good! We had a slip n' slide in the lobby last night."

"Oooh! Sorry I missed that. How'd they slippery it up?"

"John had water?" Rory shrugged. "He set it up and everything."

"Huh." Zero considers this for a moment. "I figured, y'know, Crisco or somethin'. In my brother's dorm, they did a slip 'n' slide with KY one time. Got busted hard for it, of course."

((Actually, this is an annual event at one of the men's honors dorms on my campus.))

Vala stopped by after lunch and entered the room carefully. She'd heard plenty of things about the library, and the most time she'd ever spent there had been during the Zombie Invasion... so the place made her kind of nervous. But this class (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/506197.html) was going to kill her without some serious help...

"You're Zero, right?" Vala asked. The girl's hair was even more distinctive than her own and she'd seen her around campus; Vala just hoped she had the name right.

"Well, we're in Medieval English History together and I need to do my assignment, and I was wondering if you could show me where to find something on this Bow-dika (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/506197.html?thread=23386453#t23386453)? You know, the one who led the Roman revolt?

"Oh, well, Boudicca, sure. Have you ever used the card catalogue before? Oh, and you do have a library card, right?"

"I have a card!" Vala pulled it out quickly and held it up like a talisman. Even she knew bad things happened to those without library cards.

"Um... catalogue?"

"Hey, Zero," Parker came in around third period, looking tense. "Vote yet?"

"Yes, Parker, I voted. Deep breaths. Don't want the ulcer to rear its ugly little head again."

"True." Parker sighed. "I just have this horrible fear that suddenly a new write-in candidate will show up, and everyone who's pissed off at me will decide not to vote for competence, but just for anyone else. Or Alanna and Liz will get all the votes, and we won't have a third rep." She laughed tensely. "But that's silly."

"Easy, Parker. You're gettin' anxiety all over me. S'gonna be fine, you'll see."

"Yeah, yeah." Parker sighed. "Do you have any idea why Phoebe's not in the race any more? That's another thing making me tense."
