Library, 1/16

[chasingangela]

A subdued and somewhat red-eyed Angela opens the library at the start of second period and props herself behind the collections desk. She casts a glance at the pile of books to be sorted; she'll get to them eventually.

And then she just sits there, staring into space and thinking.

She has her head buried in her hands, but she would be more alert if someone came in. Probably.

Lee returns to the library, carrying a load of books. Seting them down at a table, he peers over at Angela. "Hey, Angela," he says. "Case of the Mondays?"

"Kind of," she says. "Also, I kind of broke up with Marty last night."

It still feels weird to say that.

Lee bites his lip. He's terrible at these conversations. "Gods, Angela. Are you okay? Can I get you anything?"

"Not really. I think I just need time, y'know?"

"The funny thing is, I dropped him. And I totally believe it's the right thing to do for now, y'know? But ... it still hurts a whole lot."

Lee tilts his head, watching her. "...time? For what?" he asks before adding, "if you don't mind talking to me about it."

She shakes her head. "I don't mind talking, no. I guess time to just sort of figure stuff out? I mean, I've been dating him since the second week of school, and we were kind of ... snapping at each other, lately. You know? Not big fights, just ...." she leans her forehead on her palm as her voice trails off. "It wasn't fun, at the end. And I'd rather break up with him now than have him hate me."

"Plus, I kissed my ex-boyfriend while I was home for the weekend."

"Oh," Lee says. "Wow. So things really were getting bad. Kissing on other boys isn't the ..." and he trails off. "You'd rather be with this ex-boyfriend, I take it?"

For some reason, this makes Angela laugh. "No. Not really. I mean, Jordan Catalano was my first love, and I still get kind of weak around him, but he's not really my type, anymore. We could never talk, or anything, it was just physical." She blushes as she says this last bit. "If I'm honest, I wouldn't have kissed him if I hadn't had one foot out the door with Marty."

"Kissing another guy is quite a loaded message, yeah," Lee says nervously and obliviously. "So, how did Marty take it?"

Bel came into the library and returned the books he had checked out last week, then busied himself in the Eastern Philosophy section.

"He kind of shut down. Didn't really say anything. Parker thinks he was probably too hurt to talk, and I think she's probably right, and that really scares me."

Lee gives her a small smile. "Girls can get us fellas really shook up, you know?"

Angela nods a vague greeting in Bel's direction, then goes to work reshelving the books he had returned.

At least Marty doesn't have a destiny to kill me, she thinks. This could be so much worse.

Angela returns the smile, weakly. "You do it to us, too, so ... fair play, right?"

Pippi walks reverently into the library, fiddling with the blue scarf around her neck. (She still can't get over the shear number of books.)

She looks around at a few different shelves and crinkles her nose... Then she wanders up to the desk and waits until somebody can help her.

Lee isn't so sure about the turnabout being fair play here, but he doesn't wish to offend. "So... what do you plan to do now?"

Angela shrugs. "Right now I don't want to do much of anything. I guess just trying being single." She does not look as though this is a prospect that gives her much joy.

She waves a hand around as if to clear the air. "So that's, like, my angst for the week. How are you? How's Kara?"

Angela gives her a tired smile. "Hi, Pippi. Need some help?"

"Err," he says, "Fine, I guess? If you want my current angst-o-meter read out, it's definitely that I'm too attached, but..." and he shrugs. "and I also seem to not have a good way to communicate with the girl, but whatever."

"Relationships take work," he says finally.

"Hi Angela," Pippi grinned back, "Yeeah... Um, if I wanted to find a book that mentioned a specific thing... How would I go about finding it?"

"And communication is the hardest part, seriously. I'm sorry that's hard for you guys."

"The question, I guess, is when they good parts stop being worth the work."

"A book that mentioned something?" Angela echoes. "Not sure. I mean, you can start by looking up the general topic, and seeing what the Dewey Decimal number is, then finding that section."

"Or you can ask me. I pretty much know what's where, by now."

"I'm thinking of trying a special project for Gardening Class. I was wondering if you had a plant book with information on something called gillyweed?"

[[ooc: fyi: Gillyweed is a Harry Potter thing. If the library has Potterverse books this (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizworld/books.html#Magical_Water_Plants_of_the_Mediterranean) is the one that would fit the bill. If not... IMPROV! OOPA! :D

"Gillyweed? Never heard of that one," Angela says with a shrug, and goes over to the computerized card catalog. "Let me run a search and see if anything pops up."

[OOC: Checking with the other library staff, as magical books are in the fabled Special Collections, for which Pippi would need a note from Quayle. I'm not sure whether this would count as magical or not. Sorry -- hopefully I'll have an answer soonish.]

[[ooc: No worries, I can wait. From what I know, the book itself is not magical, though it talks about magical things. As opposed to, say, "The Monster Book of Monsters", from the same milieux. Which is alive and rather agro. I could be wrong though, sorry to cause trouble. :)
