Advanced Criminal Justice (Class 1), Period 2, 01.10.05
[OOC: It's good to be back! Now using limited OCD threads! Class Info Post.]
The Tick is standing at a podium in the front of the room. Lockheed is back on top of a specific bookcase in the room. Furthermore, there is a squid in a bowl on Tick's desk. On the bowl is a note reading "LOST SQUID." Once all the students have filed in, The Tick hands out the syllabiwhich are just the C.I.P. linked above but more IC, shh and speaks to the class.
"Hello, students! In case you were unaware, I am Professor Tick and I shall be your guide in this mysterious land that we call Justice! This semester we will be taking on subjects that are... Well, actually, I don't know what they are yet, but they should be keen! "
"A couple orders of business to take care of. First, since this is an advanced class, you'll be expected to do a bit more than you did last semester. Therefore, you have weekly homework now. More on that later. You will also have two quizzes, a paper, a group project, and the Final Exam at the end of the year. I'm confident that you will all survive these trials, though! And there will be weekly extra credit, of course."
"Now let's get to a little discussion! It's light stuff today, class. Stand up, give your name, and tell the class something you've done in the Name of Justice!"
"Every week, you will have a homework assignment. The assignment is called The Weekly Metaphor! Each week I'll give you a prompt and you will have to use your fine metaphor skills to make the prompt relate to Justice in some way. [OOC: See the duck question on last semester's final to see how this works.] This week's prompt is mules."
"And finally, I'm giving you the opportunity to do weekly extra credit. This week's EC Prompt is: come up with a superhero name for yourself."
"Extra Credit and The Weekly Metaphor must be turned in on Thursday [OOC: Or in slowplay terms, by class on the following Tuesday.] Again, I look forward to all of your contributions throughout the next 16 weeks. Go ahead and discuss!"

Cameron frowns and raises his hand. "Sir. Can a sidekick's name be used as a superhero's name as well? Otherwise I already have one."

She also handed in her homework--The strong back of Justice can carry a heavy load.
She's a little out of practice with her metaphors after break.
Re: Turn Stuff In
She was still having troubles thinking of one for herself, though--Colonel and SG-1 were already taken.

Superhero name:
BatmanThe Dark AvengerHelper of the help - nah that's stupidChampi - nah that's dumb tooProtector of the city?Metaphor: Justice is like a mule in that you think having it around will be really helpful and make your life easier, only the mule's difficult to work with and is really stubborn, just like folks in your town can be really stubborn and refuse to see that, hello, vampires and demons everywhere and just how many people really can accidentally stab themselves with barbeque forks in a single year 'cause, come on, that's gotta be no more than five, ten people tops. Maybe twelve if they're all from the same family.
And then you're there and you're trying to save the life of somebody's girlfriend only he's all pissed off at you because you're making him look like a wimp and she's hitting you with her purse because she thinks you're some kind of sick stalker and all you really wanted to do is go home early that night, watch some Bitterwoman, and maybe get a couple of hours of brooding in but there's this whole damn destiny thing plus this girl you're kinda trying to impress not that that worked out and now all you want to do is hit your head against a wall which is exactly how you feel when you're dealing with a mule. Of justice.

The Chosen OneOh Crap, That Guy!The Cooler Half of Kenobi-SkywalkerSo Much Better Than Mace WinduSo Much Better Than KenobiDarth VaderThat last one he crossed out so hard he almost put his pen through the paper.
Man Without Fear (?)
He looked at it. Seemed like something a Jedi should be able to live up to.
He printed it neatly onto a piece of paper and stuck it in front of him, his face daring someone to mock him for it.
Looking at the second part of the assignment, his face wrinkled up in confusion. "Sir? What's a mule?"

Re: Turn Stuff In
Okay, so he *could* just pick a random colour and add "Ranger" to the end of that. That would work, right? Nah, too easy.
Sitting right-side up, he scrawls "THE GREEN DEFENDER" on a piece of paper.

Re: Turn Stuff In
Sam was halfway through writing "Wrench" when she realized that name had been aired on the radio and revealing her secret identity would probably land her in trouble. Plus, it would make her a bad superhero.
Instead, she block-printed "Geek Tool Girl" and placed it on the desk in front of her. Maybe she'd be lucky and neither Marty nor Jack would see it. Or the floor would open up and swallow her whole.
For her metaphor, Sam wrote:
Justice, like a mule, is stubborn. It can be coaxed and prodded and kicked and sworn at and bribed with carrots, but it moves at its own pace towards the proper result. Neither Justice nor a mule can be rushed, or unsavory conclusions, like a swift mule kick to the rear end, will result.

Extra Credit
No.
2. Justice is like a mule because it goes into canyons where other virtues are unable to climb.
Meh...
3. Justice is like a mule because... it brays when you try to push it where it does not want to go. It will not be coerced with the Carrots of Coincidence or the Waters of the Unwilling, but will merely stand its ground, a living entity that requires our cooperation and understanding in order for it to thrive.
That'd have to do.
Re: Turn Stuff In
Vala winced. She was definitely out-of-practice in the metaphor-crafting. Then she stifled a yawn. Especially at 8 in the morning.
She made herself a nametag simply labeled: "The Streak!"

For his metaphor, he turns in the following:
Justice may often seem unwieldy and unattractive, but it is reliable and steady and capable of far more than its appearance may let on.
He's not at all hoping Jaye notices his silly nametag.
Re: Turn Stuff In
Justice is the mule that should be carrying stuff to make our lives easier, but sometimes it craps in the road and innocent people end up trodding through it and tracking it all over the place.
Logan looked at that for a moment, then added,
Heroes are the ones who keep the mule crap of justice from dirtying up the roads.
Re: Turn Stuff In
"Mules are often described as stubborn, but the truth is that they are actually highly independent thinkers. Those who work in the name of Justice must, like a mule, be able to think independently in order to overcome any personal bias they may have, lest they cross that precarious line between Justice and Cold-Blooded Revenge."
Re: Turn Stuff In
Colonel Princess Sparkleypoo!Colonel Smartass! He then handed in his metaphor.
Justice is like a mule because they must both beware of the bad men who want to take advantage of them. Much like how Justice also resembles sheep. And some dogs. And ferrets around Marty.
