Library (12/20/05)

Janet ran towards the library. She'd overslept, and it looked like no one else had gotten it open yet. She flipped on the lights, unloaded the food from last night's shopping trip with Parker, made sure that no one but library staff could get to the food, and sat down to start eating while she finished up her Classics project.

Xander peered off into the stacks, looked down at the book, then at his hand. "Also I may need new gloves."

The chuckle sounded again, only this time, it was farther over; somewhere in the next row of books.

It sounded warm and inviting and extremely amused.

"Why do I get the feeling that came from the 800's?" Xander asked, as he kept his hands to himself while sidling past a suspciously silent and innocent-looking shelf.

Logan walked on a little further. "I think we start here," he said, looking at the 890s. "Any preferences?" He reached out and picked a book at random.

"Non-biting?" Xander suggested, looking cautiously at the book in Logan's hands to see if it fell under that description.

When they opened the book, they saw:

Line drawings on the left hand side, with descriptions of the sexual positions being explored on the right-hand page.

Only these line drawings were moving. Enthusiastically.

"Oh, so that's how you do--" slipped out before Xander could stop himself. "Uh."

As if they heard him, the moving figures disentangle and straighten themselves. They then repeat the same act in careful, slow motions, as if to ensure a beginner could follow.

The expressions on the tiny faces of the line drawings are pretty much shouting, Take notes, retard.

Logan laughed. "You'll get there someday, Xander," he said. Logan flipped through the pages, looking at the drawings. "That's standard, done that, done that, done --" he stared at one image and cocked his head to the side. "Whoa. Didn't know that was possible." He tapped it with the tip of his finger.

The line drawings stop performing and look at Logan, as if waiting for something.

Just then, the shelves begin to reconfigure. To one side, they rise up, up, up, much higher than the room seems as though it should be, as high as the boys can see; to the other, they drop to the height of a low hedge, but spread on and on forever -- again, to the edge of vision.

"I'm gonna go with 'Holy amazing adventures of Bitterwoman' for a reaction here," Xander said. "That sound about right to you?"

The transparent form of a beautiful woman might distract him as she runs through the lower set of shelves.

She is blonde, brunette, pale, dark, a redhead, Asian, curvacious, boyish -- every fantasy either of them has ever had, or thought about having. She wears lingerie, a swimsuit, a ballgown, nothing. And she smiles, and she licks her lips, and she laughs.

And she calls to them, begging them to follow her with words and gestures and eyes as she goes further and further into the stacks.

"There are books over there?" Xander said, his feet already moving down the aisle, with very little input from his primary head.

"It's the library," Logan said, a step ahead of Xander. "There are books everywhere."

The girl gave a soft giggle and disappeared into the dark, shooting the boys a final wink.

Behind them, shelves closed in together, blocking the exit.

"Oh, right, books." If it seemed evident that his less-primary brain was spelling that word with two b's and no k, well, that's... fairly predictable for a 19 year old boy. Xander looked around them, then repeated, a little less dazedly and a little more disappointedly, "Yep. Books."

"Books," Logan agreed. "We're here solely for educational purposes." He continued in the direction of the girl.

Logan and Xander might have caught the sight of the mysterious girl vanishing through a door in the wall.

A low moan came from the darkness, and a single, feminine hand reemerged through the doorway, the index finger beckoning them with a "Come hither," motion.

Re: In the stacks

[identity profile] spec-collection.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Several more female voices could be heard, and an assortment arms and legs reached out to the boys. It seemed there were at least six women in the dark room.

"Oh, Logan..." called one breahy voice.

"Xander...please," moaned another.

The chorus of voices erupted into moans and cries for either or both boys as the visual indications of female presence retreated into the blackness.

Xander stopped moving, then blinked. Which didn't, unsurprisingly, make the lights come on.

"I... seem to remember associating those two words, yeah. Also 'run' and 'exit'. Except I'm starting to see some conflict between those concepts, specifically where they cross on 'dark' and 'exit.'"
