The Library (12/16/05)

Janet has no classes today, so she opens up the library, flips on the lights, and plots ways to get revenge on Jack O'Neill. Oh, and she works. Really. She is in no way browsing through webpages and ordering supplies for any future pranks when she goes on vacation.

She also puts up a sign:

RETURN YOUR LIBRARY BOOKS. NOW.
THE STAFF IS GETTING CRANKY.
ALSO: ZERO. MALLET. GET THE IDEA?

THE LIBRARY IS CLOSING EARLY
FOR THE INVESTIGATORS' CLUB MEETING.

Psych Experiment

Jack comes in with a few sheets of paper and a box full of poker chips.
A piece of paper with the following information will be given to all participants.

Thank you for volunteering to help with our experiement.

You will be given 2 sets of words (seperately, one easy, one difficult) which you will have one minute to memorize. The words will then be taken away and after 5 minutes you will have to recall as many of the words as you can and write them down.

OOC: There are two groups. Please pick if you are a part of the group that is given 20 poker chips at the outset, or the group that is given nothing.

If you choose to be part of the poker chip group, for every word you miss, you will lose a chip. Please see Jack Harkness or Paige Matthews at the end of the day. The person who manages to keep the most poker chips will choose between two prizes.

For either group, please note in the threads below (answer in both easy and hard):

Chip? Y/N
How many words did your character miss?

"Oh, definitely, gimme the chips," she grins. and sits down to study.

After five minutes she happily hands back the sheet and proudly writes down:

Cat, bag, lost, why, house, sing, frog, shirt, hot, big, lick, crime, sexy, play, light.

(I believe that's -5?)

"Okay, you missed five. Give me five chips back." Jack holds out his hand. "You've only got fifteen left, so if you want to win the prize you better hope no one is better than you."

"Oh, thanks," she scowls at him, handing over the chips. "No pressure or anything!"

Concentrating, Parker manages to work out a mnemonic for this, based on games Sydney used to have her play with Jarod.

Cat, Bag, Lost, Why, Car, Blue, Sing, Ball, Shirt, hot, big, lick, crime, you, pen, sexy, play, light

"Sorry, Parker. You got two wrong. Pay up." Jack holds out his hand for the chips.

"Yikes!" she stares at the list, unsure of even what a couple of these mean. But she takes a deep breath and studies hard for the next five minutes.... or more......

"Time's up. Write down what words you remember."

[[You only have a minute to study. You then have to wait five minutes, then write down which words you remember.]]

This one's a lot harder, but she still manages to get most of them, with a few interesting exceptions.

Exaggerate, caffeinate, encyclopaedia, dinosaur, tentative, legislation, progressive, appropriate, spontaneous, Hypothermia, Physiology, Concrete, Sedative, Laminate, Vocabulary, Condemnation, Sanctuary,

"And that's three wrong, so give back three more chips. You keep a total of 15. If anyone else does better, then you lose."

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] aka-vala.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, time to do your psych project?" Vala grinned. Then frowned. "Did you come up with all this in the last two days?"

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope. Paige and I came up with this before I lost my memory. Luckily, she kept good notes, so even though I don't remember it, I can still pull off the project. Which is good, because I completely bombed my Criminal Justice final, and I came thisclose to screwing up my Speech final." Jack sighs. Finals and amnesia? Two unmixy things.

"Ugh," Vala winces in sympathy, "That sounds nasty. Didn't any of the teachers give you a break for, you know," she gestures vaguely, "Brain breakage?"

[[FYI -- I didn't make it very clear, chips or not is an OOC choice.]]

Re: Psych Experiment - OOC

[identity profile] aka-vala.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[[Ooops! Sorry! How do you want me to fix?]]

[[Plus, Vala's gonna keep studying that second list until it's forcible taken from her. Those are hard! ;-)]]

Re: Psych Experiment - OOC

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[[We'll just mentally strike her 'ooo, chips, please' comment and I'll take it as you OOCly chosing chips.]]

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey Jack." Parker tilts her head, studying the set-up. "What the hell. I'll try it for chips."

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[[OOC: Chips y/n is an OOC decision. No chips is the control group.

If you could post in the comment threads for "Easy" and "Hard" that would be fantastic!]

"Hi Jack. Paige sent me in here, she told me to tell you I got them all right and that I should get the prize from you." Maia said looking a bit reluctant.

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Jack rose and grinned at her. "So you decided against the ten dollar gift certificate to the Emporium?" He came around the table he was sitting at and walked to her side with a smile on his face. "She did tell you what the prizes were, right?" he asked.

[[Ack! Sorry this is so late!!!!]]

Re: Psych Experiment

[identity profile] maias-notebook.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Maia looked a little annoyed with Paige not telling her "No she didn't actually." Maia tilted her head at Jack "What are they? Besides the giftcertificate?"
