The Library (12/16/05)

Janet has no classes today, so she opens up the library, flips on the lights, and plots ways to get revenge on Jack O'Neill. Oh, and she works. Really. She is in no way browsing through webpages and ordering supplies for any future pranks when she goes on vacation.

She also puts up a sign:

RETURN YOUR LIBRARY BOOKS. NOW.
THE STAFF IS GETTING CRANKY.
ALSO: ZERO. MALLET. GET THE IDEA?

THE LIBRARY IS CLOSING EARLY
FOR THE INVESTIGATORS' CLUB MEETING.

Looking exhausted, Angela plops herself at the collections desk. "So how exactly do you make a pirate sound like a well-rounded student in 400 words? I hate writing today."

"Try not to use the word 'wench' at all?" asked Janet, shaking her head. "I'm clueless. I've got a 200 word presentation for Classics and Indo-European and I have no energy or willpower to work on it today. Still, I have to do it now, because I'm not working on it over the weekend."

"Here, have an apple." Janet held out a piece of fruit. "It's too healthy for the library, but my fridge broke last night, so I have to eat everything before it goes bad."

Lee comes in with all his checked-out books and smiles at Janet. "Sorry about being such a wet blanket last night, Janet. And here are my books!!"

"Good morning, Janet. So what is this Investigator's Club?" Methos asked.

"You weren't a wet blanket, Lee," said Janet. "Don't worry about it." She takes the books off the counter and looks to see if any are omg overdue so she can tease Lee about them.

OOC: I'm about to go in and do a thread on the room post from last night letting you out before I run like hell go to the library. Or Janet had another bag of apples somewhere?

"Well, I left you guys just as things were about to HAPPEN, you know and I was all mope-y and stuff. How did the rest of the evening go?" he asks, and sekritly hopes that none of his books are overdue because that would just be embarrassing.

"Zero and I dissected gremlins for it," said Janet. "We've been using the library for meetings all semester, remember? But we didn't do the dissecting in here."

"Pretty quietly," said Janet. "Except my fridge broke down, and Bridge, Cally, and Anders took it off to fix it and also I locked Jack and Sam in the closet, and I swear, if they didn't have sex, I'm going to kill them both." She paused, and checked two books again. "Lee, do you realize you have two books here that are severely overdue?"

"Oh, damn, I've been meaning to see Cally and Anders...sorry I missed them. Hrm," he says. OMG THERE MUST BE CLOSET SEX. MUST BE. ARGH!

Lee looks at her in shock. "Severely overdue? What?"

"At least you can work on yours over the weekend. Mine is due at the end of the day," Angela says, gloomily biting into her apple. "Mmm. It's been a while since I had fruit. What happened to your fridge?"

"It was nice to see them," says Janet, grinning. "They've been busy lately. I've barely seen anyone around, to be honest." If there hasn't been closet sex, there will be suffering tonight, trust me.

Janet nods. "Yeah, you've had Kitchen Utensils: Names, Origins, and Definitions Through the Ages and 33 Things Every Girl Should Know About Women's History: From Suffragettes to Skirt Lengths to the E.R.A. out for months now. I don't even remember you checking these out."

"At the end of the day?" Janet looked stunned. "But the semester doesn't end until next week. That's horrible."

She pulled a second apple out of her backpack and bit into it. "I have no idea. It just started smoking. And I certainly didn't sabotage it myself so I could have an excuse to throw my BFF and my roommate in the closet together for the night. Bridge, Cally, and Anders can fix it, though."

Angela shrugs. "Mr. Jerusalem assigned it, like, before Thanksgiving, so we had time. I'm just procrastinating a lot."

"If Bridge Carson fixes your fridge, it might actually fill itself. Or else talk." She chews a bit of apple ppensively. "I think I'd rather it filled itself, y'know? I so don't need my refrigerator to, like, yell at me about how many calories are in what I'm eating."

Lee all but flails. "I...I... gods, Janet. Um..."

"Procrastination is a high schooler's best friend," said Janet.

"It won't be a normal fridge after that?" asked Janet, who had somehow managed to remain completely oblivious to all of Bridge and Cally's previous repair efforts. She frowned. "It might yell at me? Isn't a toaster that rhymes bad enough?"

"Oops," said Janet, snickering. "How'd you forget about those two books? The fine is pretty severe too."

She didn't mention the part in the library rules about the librarian setting the fines however he wanted. And how that meant she could set the fines, because he was too lazy to go in and set fines on overdue books.

"I don't know, I might accept baked goods in lieu of a fine, though," said Janet. "Seeing how you're apparently a master of kitchen utensils now that you've had that book for so long and because I saw you started a baking post, omg."

“Funnily enough, Janet, I happen to have a little package for you already made – a few slices of warm gingerbread cake, just for you!” and he pulls it out of his satchel with a grin.

"I don't know if it'll yell at you," Angela says, "But they fixed Marty's cell and now it dispenses Jordan almonds, and Rory's laptop makes waffles." She tilts her head from side to side, considering. "I mean, I think they're way too nice to make anything that would actually be mean, but sometimes things they fix do weird stuff."

Janet shook her head. "I think I'm not going to ask and just hope for the best." She took another bite of her happle and chewed for a minute, before swallowing and answering Angela. "No, you're right, they're all too nice to do anything like that. I just have to wonder what I got myself into. Though waffles are starting to sound really good right now."

"You're good, Lee," said Janet, grinning back at him. She checks the books back in and erases the fine. "That smells delicious."


I was going to do a cookie-making post today, but you beat me to it, darn you!

"They do. We should ask Rory to bring her laptop to the library with her for the club this afternoon," Angela says, then considers. "I mean, does she come to I-Club? I was just assuming for some reason."
