Study Hall (12/07/2005)

Jenny opens up Study Hall today, and brings in bagels and several different kinds of cream cheese for the students. She sets her laptop up in the front of the room and starts working on a program.

Belthazor wandered into study hall to kill some time until the library opened up. He eyed Jenny as he came in and sat up at the front of the room instead of his usual perfered spot further back for a change.

Jenny noticed the kid glancing at her when he came in, but he was probably checking out the new psych teacher. Everyone else was.

Seeing none of the white hat brigade in study hall yet, Bel decided to approach Jenny. He walked up to her desk. "Hi," he said nicely. "You're the new psychology teacher?"

"Hey," said Jenny. "It's the burning question on everyone's minds these days, it seems like. Yep. That'd be me. But please? Don't call me Professor Calendar. Just Ms. Calendar is fine."

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Calender," Bel said, smiling. "I'm Cole." He decided to use that name instead of Belthazor since she'd probably been warned about him. "I was thinking of taking psychology next semester -- what kind of courses are you going to be offering?"

Draco needed to get into the library but since it wasn't open yet he decided to spend in time in study hall. He sat at his desk, wondering how in the hell he was going to pass his finals.

Shep came in and pulled up some stuff on the internet for Linguistics (which really wasn't supposed to be independent study, but...)

Phonics... phonemics... Alcorn symbols... consonant carry-over...

"Hey Shep." She plops into the chair beside him.

"Um... hey."

Shep looks up from his laptop and sees a young woman sitting next to him. He makes no claims to knowing everyone around here, but he's reasonably sure he hasn't seen her before.

"Do I know you?"

A wicked grin crosses her face. "Well, I did kiss you once. Or maybe i just dreamed it. or maybe you did. I'm never sure in this place."

Lana overhears this exchange as she comes in. "Oh yes, you definitely *did* kiss him once," she says with e mischievious smile.

Duo bounds in, grinning and clutching the delivery (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/303946.html?#cutid3) he got earlier in the day. "Anyone from this century know how to watch this thing? It's a..." he looks at the box. "...a 'D-V-D.' Is that like a vidchip?" He sets about examining the box again.

Shep waves at the kid. He hasn't met him before, but he looks harmless enough.

"Bring it over here, I'll show you."

Duo grins and practically hops over.

"Thanks, man!" He says. "I think I need some sort of player for it or something!" He presents the box in question.

Here, we can stick in my computer for now. I think most of the dorm common rooms have one... the idea's the same.

DVD stands for Digital Video Disk. It's a recording of an audio-video program. Most pretty user friendly. Stick it in, let it load, hit play.

Duo considers this. "Huh. So it is like a vidchip! Only bigger. Neat! I sure love old Earth technology!" He pops it into the computer. "'A Christmas Story.'" He reads off the box. "You know what this is about? Something about an evil pink thing?"

Xander shows up carrying a mini-aquarium.



With a purple frog in it. And a Post-it note on the side, right next to a firmly-attached¹ sprig of mistletoe.

He sits down at a desk near the door, pops the top of the tank open, makes sure the Post-it sign is conspicuously displayed... and pulls out a graphic novel book, settling in to watch out of the corner of his eye to make sure his frog doesn't escape or get captured by gremlins read.

It might look like he's ditching Journalism Class, but he's not.

Jenny waves at Xander, then grins at the frog in the aquarium. "Nice frog," she says, wandering over. "Though he's a little more purple than I'm thinking a frog has a right to be."

Xander grins. "Funny thing about that. He used to be green, but then I took him home for Thanksgiving. And whaddya know -- Sunnydale warps everything it touches."

"Gosh, it's just like a little slice of home," said Jenny, staring at the frog. "Crosses and all. You worried about vampires going after her? Or him?"

Paige came in looking for Sawyer with a worried expression, she saw the frog tank and moved a bit closer to read the post-it and laughed, "trying to get yourself a date Xander?" she asked with a smile

Following her conversation with Xander Paige went and sat down at a nearby table keeping an eye out of Sawyer so she could tell him about Maia's mom.

Grumbling with a sleepy tone, he makes his way into Study Hall, he looks like he's half-asleep but he's really conscious! He ambles his way over to Paige, planting a kiss to her forehead lightly before taking a seat, "Mornin', darlin'."

She forces a smile for him and takes his hand, "we have to go talk okay?"
