Study Hall (12/07/2005)

Jenny opens up Study Hall today, and brings in bagels and several different kinds of cream cheese for the students. She sets her laptop up in the front of the room and starts working on a program.

Duo considers this. "Huh. So it is like a vidchip! Only bigger. Neat! I sure love old Earth technology!" He pops it into the computer. "'A Christmas Story.'" He reads off the box. "You know what this is about? Something about an evil pink thing?"

"Um... sure. Assuming a vidchip is what it sounds like. Old Earth, huh?" Shep raises an eyebrow, but isn't sure he really wants to get into it with the kid. Conversations like that around here never ended well for him.

"Evil pink thing?" Shep grabs the box to see if it's the movie he thinks it is. "This is a fabulously funny movie. It's about a kid who wants a gun. Only everyone thinks he'll shoot his eye out. And then he swears. In REALLY slow motion. So he has to eat soap. And then he gets his tongue stuck to a cold poll... so in other words, it's all about how this kid's holiday really sucks. But it's damn entertaining."

"Yeah, its a chip with info and stuff on it that you access through a computer. That sure is what it sounds like, huh?" He grins. "Yeah, I'm talkin' about all this 20th century stuff--old Earth history and the like. I figured it out once that it was somethin' like 240 years before me."

Duo listens to the description and starts laughing. "Guns and slow-motion swearing and tongues stuck to poles, huh?" He keeps laughing. "That does sound interestin'! A little weird, but interestin'! I dunno where all these ideas for films came from, though, especially old American films, but I'm not complainin'!" He grins.

I blame some rotten pheasant. Some of them can't be explained as anything other than food-poisoning-induced crack dreams.

Duo only nods slowly in response, because really, he can't explain the fact that he's watching people discuss a lamp that resembles a lady's leg, either.

That right there? Not typical of the time period. The poor kid's dad wasn't quite right.
